Hot gear stick

I went on a fairly long run over the weekend and noticed that the gear stick was warm after driving for about an hour. This was not from sunlight nor because it was hot in the car but rather from driving (I think). I cant say I have noticed it before. I have recently changed the gear gaitor.

Does this sound familiar? Might I have disturbed some insulation when changing the gaitor?

My stick gets noticeably hot after a long run too (rain or shine). There is supposed to be a second rubber gaitor inside the leather one which acts as a sort of heat shield, but after a period of time even this lets heat from the engine/gearbox/torque tube through to the gear stick

Look on the bright side - on a top of the range Merc and the like, you'd have to specify and pay for a heated hearstick option [:D] [:D]

My 944s used to do this as well on long runs (but in Europe - never in the UK!)
I guess the weather we are having lately means the climate is similar to what I experienced in Europe...

(And it used to get very hot [] - not "warm" [;)])

My stick and gaitor also get quite hot and it's an auto - always wondered if I had some heating pipe loose in the dash that was pumping some hot air into the centre console but sounds like it might just be from the transmission tunnel then!
