Hot Rodding a 944

What exactly is meant by Hot Rodding a Porsche? I have been having a read of last months 911 World and, it seems there is a
group of London 911 (964) enthusiasts that have formed their own club/group and, have spent shed loads of dosh "Hot Rodding"
their rides. Does this just mean Track prepping their cars but, keeping them road legal? I always thought that the term "Hot Rod"
was an American phrase for a fast Street car? What's your take on this phrase/subject? Please enlighten me, I am somewhat
confused.........(Simon [:D]).

I agree the term is an American one and uncommonly used in the UK. Maybe the magazine is looking to reinvent the phrase. I know some of the 964 crew and from what I have seen of their cars they are typically putting out more horsepower than standard and customised to the taste of the individual. For some this is a track vehicle, for some relatively minor mods, typically to the interior, but all are road legal.

With most classic cars, originality seems to be highly prized as is low miles. With the 964 however, a well maintained and tastefully modified car may well fetch the same or more than the original low mileage garage queen. Not sure what other cars have this acceptance of modification without definitive detrimental impact on values.

Bet that's as clear as mud now [:D]

Cheers
Mick

Mick, I have been thinking the same things entirely mate. Simon, yes indeed, "Silly American" phrase which, conjures up images
in my mind of American "Muscle Cars" with massive wheels on the back, tiny wheels on the front, tons of chrome, tons of
horsepower and, ultimately, a car that is practically un-driveable [8|]! However, those 964's that those London boys own and
modify are something else altogether [8D]! Has anyone else seen last months copy of 911 World? Top work those fellows [8D]!
Your 964's look Awesome and, it has certainly given me food for thought [8|][;)].........[8D][:D]! Top Bombing!

How 964 should be modified

not my cuppa tea, maybe if I lived closer to the ring...

I much prefer the singer route.

How I look back and laugh at the cheap dogged 964s I avoided as they pissed oil onto the owners drive, if only I had bought a few!

re skylines comment on american muscle cars being undriveable with their mods, I had to laugh when I watched need for speed (i know but was on a plane and the film choice was limited) and at the start a porsche 951 gets beat by several crap old american cars!

Oil leaks like this don't always mean the worst case for a 964 engine. Many drive very well and still leak a bit. A reseal at a few grand can be all that's required. I think indies used to see punters coming and tell them its a top end rebuild jobbie when its not always the case. Some nice redtek built aircooled engines amongst those London 964 cars.

Lost for words Andrew?

Oh, just noticed your comments in the quote box. Must learn to read []

I'm starting to feel a 964 coming on [8D][;)].....[:D]

I really like the 964,without a doubt they are my favorite 911. However I just don't think they are worth what they are selling for.

I love my 964 but my 944 is more fun to drive quickly. The 964 gets plenty of admiring looks and handles really well, but I just like my Silver Rose for fun driving [:D]
