Hi Guys
Was driving the 2.7 locally during the week, noticed a smell of petrol only 400yds from my destination, still there when I stopped popped the bonnet to see a large jet of petrol spraying all over the exhaust!!!![][][]
Turned the motor off pretty quickly!!!!

Got AA to bring me home and fitted a spare I had from a rail I bought for the 2.5 - which proved to be the wrong one for the early car - so cheap and easy fit, but could have cost the car!

Maybe worth checking the little pipe looping under the fuel rail near the front.

The pipe in the 2.7 is dated '88 but is well cracked (!) but the replacement is 1986 and shows no similar signs and is a different type of material.

Wow Mike, a close escape!!

There have been a few very similar incidents flagged up recently, and not all with happy endings - glad yours was.

As you say, well worth checking.....

Porsche Centre Edinburgh did my 1988 2.5 during an MOT 2 years ago. No charge and a lovely job.

I'd certainly get it checked!
I've seen a lot of split / perished hoses in my job and in 24+ years I've only seen more liquid (water thankfully!) come out of a hose half a dozen times, very scary!
I reckon at least 5 litres came out in approx 300 metres and it was coming out horizontally and falling directly on to the exhaust!
But as I said above the older spare I had, I inspected thoroughly and there is no sign of any damage whatsoever.
Guessing a cheaper alternative proved to wrong - again!
