How can someone do this?

This afternoon I parked my car in a village market place, perfectly fine to park there.
Some one has dented my car and cracked the fibreglass on the rear bumper, not left any note with details or anything.

Only noticed when I saw the dent shining in the sun two hours later, what should have been a pleasant day has ended horribly.

Can't go to body shop to get a quote tomorrow because I've playing clarinet at someones wedding, don't even want to do that now at all, so upset and livid at the same time [:(]

Someone please reassure me that a decent body place will get that dent out [:(]

Cos there are some orrible little gits around. Big shame that as you were obviously very proud of it. Its happened to me on a number of occasions. Most of the damage is malicious and I also learned to park at the back of supermarket car parks to avoid mrs shell suit and her 6 kids opening their doors on to my bodywork. You can only be vigilant but you cant watch over her 24hrs. Just try to make sure the paint match is correct.
I was told they only had one batch for Zermatt sliver and the match is excellent.

Aww hell's bells you didn't need that did you, shocking display of dishonesty there.

I'm not a panel beater but it looks to me like that dent may pop back out if the correct amount of pressure is applied uniformly from the appropriate angle, the bumper will be easier but may need to be stripped of trim and resprayed to achieve a satisfactory finish after the cracks have been repaired.

Someone on here will know bodywork repairs better than me so wait for further advice maybe.

very frustrating!

take it to Tony @ ph sportscars in Shardlow - he'll sort it for you (and is pretty good with paint matching)

Gutted for you. [:(]

There are some complete tw*ts out there. I hope whoever did that to you has a crash.

It is terrible that we have to worry about such things but there is no honesty and goodwill anymore. I daren't park my car anywhere crowded because of that same worry.

Have you got any protected no claims bonus? Let the insurance pay!

Thanks all :)

No protected no claims I'm afraid and being 20 my excess isn't cheap so will just pay for it. EDH - thanks got a website / phone number for Tony?

What a w**ker who did that. I know how it feels mate. Where are you? If your near Hertfordshire/London I can recommend Daytona Coachworks in Stevenage as a very good bodyshop who do many older Porsches. Very honest and professional too, they do a great job.

I would get a quote before you decide to claim on insurance or not, if its not too expensive it may be wiser to foot the bill yourself rather than loose your NCB and subsequent higher renewal costs.

Edd

Edd, I'm in Derbyshire. Sorry for the confusion on insurance, I play to foot the bill myself rather than go through insurance due to losing NCB and higher renewal, being 20 is not a good thing as for as insurers are concerned!

Sympathy - that's grim - my rear skirt wears the scar of a similar crime - worst part is I even know who did it but can't 'prove ' it.

Really sorry to hear your news and see the damage - the carelessness and dishonesty of some people just beggers belief. []

Hope you get Pixie fixed up and back to her full '80's glory real soon.

I will second Eds suggestion. Tony can blow hot and cold mind. Some days superb work and an agreeable man: on others less impressive and you want to get hold of him. He has done a lot of Porsches though...

Thats gotta be a real sickener [] But if the '44 is like the '24 then you can just about access that part of the panel from inside (don't have my car on the drive yet to check) if so then it should be a simple enough fix, not that thats the point but it should be OK, let us know how you get on

Best number is 01332 792086 - that's for Kirkman's (one of the garages that PH sportscars operate under these days..) ph sportscars is 799298 from memory & I think it goes through to the same number.

I think I'm right in saying the following.........You could always try making a claim from MIB. You must report the accident to the Police within 5 days as a 'hit & run' accident. You shouldn't have to pay any excess, though you will probably lose your NCB - (If this was your only car, insured under a 'classic' policy then you would probably not earn NCB discounts anyway!)

This may not be suitable if cost of repairs are low or you need repairs carried out quickly (I believe MIB may take several months to settle claims) but anyone on here who's car/occupant is substantilly damaged by either an unisured or hit & run driver should at least consider this little known route (well it was to me!). The MIB will look at your claim in the same way as if was caused by another insured or 'known' driver.

Unless it's a mega money job don't claim as you have to declare it on your insurance for the next 5 years, I learnt this the hard way when someone pulled out infront of me in my MR2 Turbo - five years in your twenties with IG20 cars is bloody expensive when you tick that box "any claims regardless of fault".

Judging by the damage some c**t reversed into your car and drove off. At best it willl be the bumper fixings - At worst the bumper might have to come off and get repaired. I am gutted for you lad - what a barsteward. I hope fate deals them a blow.. Karma

Many years ago my car suffered a similar attack from a Corsa. The bumper alignment was put off. Its a real beach to try and get it right after.

As said before dont go the insurance route. They will punish you for years after.

Really bad luck. I had some illegitimate SOB scratch down the side of my car in Norfolk.

Tell the police - there might be cctv available, although I would not hold my breath. I fear that the MIB will not entertain any claim - they deal with uninsured claims for injuries, not damage.

And I agree that you should not claim on your insurance unless really necessary - you will lose your NCB and pay for years in increased premiums.

I had someone key the side of my old Lux the other month. Three panels done and quite badly - the problem is the car is worth so little that it wouldn't be worth paying out for a respray. It's a shame as apart from that the car is mint. :(

Gutted for you.....hope you get it fixed soon and done well.

Definately the right thing to do paying out of your own pocket if you are trying to a accrue NCB.

Can't agree more with williams. If I do take my car to the supermarket I park as far away as possible from anyone else......remember Mrs shell suit with 6 kids is almost certainly a fat lazy cow and wouldn't dream of walking more than 20 yards......also rules out old crumblies from damaging your pride and joy. If anything does happen to your car while it is parked there makes it much easier for any CCTV footage to be specific about damage causation.
