How Close To The End?!

First of all, sorry for the dramatic thread title!! It's not going to be as exciting as it sounds!! [:D]

For a little while I have wondered just how close to the end of 944 production mine was produced. I think it must have been pretty close to the last ones. My evidence is thus:

1. It has a bridge spoiler.
2. It is Cobalt Blue.
3. The delivery date in the log book is 18/03/92 to AFN Porsche.
4. The last 4 numbers on the VIN are 0495.
5. It has classic grey interior (not seen this on older cars but could be wrong!).

According to Wikipedia, the total production volume for 1991 was 3118. Some sources suggest that the last 510 were produced in the Stuttgart factory. Mine was definitely not a Stuttgart produced one (the 11th number is an "N" for Neckarsulm and not an "S") so is it safe to say it was 495 of 2608?

Any idea what the production throughput at the Neckarsulm was? Seems amazing to me that it took until March 1992 to get the car to the UK. Cool that somebody picked it over a 968 :)

Personally I have never believed that any where built in Stuttgart. My reason for stating this is that the 968 we had was built in Neckarsulm in 91, grey interior with the CS non-airbag wheel, also registered a good year later in 92 on K plate. The only way some 944s could have been built in Stuttgart is if the production was continued alongside the 968 but the 944 production moved to Stuttgart then later the 968 production was moved in to replace it. This would make no sense whatsoever but hey its not impossible.

There are some really late-registered cars on k-plates. I'd guess they were sitting around unsold for ages as the new model was almost due, and there was a recession at the time.

The time from production to delivery dates seem to have been quite long... My Certificate of Authenticity shows production completion date 19/07/1990. Registration date is 17/3/1992!

Mine was registered 16/4/92
VIN in the 1300's
Alpine white with cobalt blue interior which seems to be a popular combo for late models. I suspect the cobalt blue interior option take up was quite low and they had a glut to use up at the end.
