How critical new spark plugs?

My 997.2 is due a major service (4 year interval) at the OPC and outside of the core service for £610 there seem to be some optional suggestions such as brake fluid change for £150 (I'll do that) and spark plug replacement £430 (yikes) not so sure.

I purchased the car approved used from the OPC in Dec 13 with 15k miles and it now has 18k. Do you think it's worth replacing the plugs already? Nice to get the main dealer stamps in the service record but plug change at 18K miles?

I've just been quoted £275 for spark plugs (Nottingham OPC) on my Cayman S, as both cars are 6 cylinder is there more time needed to do the job on the 997?

D

You know what? If you'd have asked me this question a week ago I'd have said probably not worth it, but I had my plugs changed while my 997 was in for her MOT (and yearly oil change - bugger the schedule, I'll take fresh liquid gold every year thanks) My plugs were between 5 and 6 years old and, to be honest, I was a bit put out that Paragon didn't change them despite agreeing to do a major service when I bought the car almost three years ago.
What a difference! Engine start is keener, throttle is sharper and just on the 12 mile drive home my fuel economy leap by an amazing 2.5mpg! Not like that things like economy matter that much in a 911, but you don't want to be thorwing it away, do you?
In short, if it's nearly 4 years, get 'em done.
My work was carried out at Autostrasse in Coggeshall, Essex and faultless service again. Mot, Oil and Spark Plug change just shy of £400 all in.
Colchester OPC wanted £495 just for spark plugs, lmao.

It's not so much the cost of the plugs more that (at least in the turbo), the rear bumper has to come off. They're a devil to get at.

I agree, if they are 4 years old, change them. New plugs do make a difference.

I had a dilemma when it came to servicing my 997.2S and resolved it by putting it in to Cavendish Porsche (Indie) in Nottingham and doing whatever they advised. Great service, good job and a lot cheaper!
