How do I remove trims from dash gauges?

I am looking at removing a gauge from the dash of my 993 to replace a possible failed bulb which does not illuminate when lights are on dipped beam. However I cant remove the gauge, [8|] I would imagine this involving removing the black metal rim from the gague face. I have tried a bit of twisting and prying but have not applied too much pressure in case I damage anything. Any advice out there?

The clock seems to be the easiest to "wiggle" out, once this is out you can then push any others out from the back.

Dunno which bulb you need to replace, but bascically try an adjacent guage to get to the one you want if it wont budge.

Thanks for that I'll wiggle it next week and see if it pops out!!. Not sure I can fix the warning lamp. When I'm on side lights a little legend on the gague lights, when I go dipped that goes off and the one I believe should light does not. Wont know if its a sealed unit until I get a look. Sometimes in low light levels (darkness is even obvious to me!) because theres no legend lit and due to having a shocking memory unaware if I turned them on or not, I have to turn the lights off to see if I've had them on then turn them back on. Bit of a pain. Thanks again.[;)]

Mike,
If it is the same as a 964 then the warning light only comes on when on sidelights, on dipped then the faint glow in front of the car tells you the lights are on.[:)] Not that 964 headlights are useless!!
Cheers,

Yes correct, the little green picture in the clock is only on for side lights and goes out when you go to main lights. When on main the only time you see a picture is when on main beam on the rev counter (between the indicator arrows). When on dipped no little pictures.

Ian.

A plastic wedge is indeed the best tool for getting out gauges that have been in the dash for the best part of 10 years. If they have been out once, a good wiggle will work. As said above, the clock was the firts one that budged on mine, even with a wedge.
