how do i tell if a 924 carrera is genuine

A chassis number in the range 93BN700051-0540

(from the book 'Original Porsche 924/944/968' by Peter Morgan)

Some ideas.

Rear spoiler, many conversions use a 944 spoiler, this is smoother than a genuine GT spoiler
Torsion bar cut out, only the most professional of conversions will have done this detail under the rear arches
Check for body colour beading between the rear arch extensions & the body
Instruments, if the dials are green then the car is based on a series 1 turbo

Chassis number, as stated above, is the only real way to be sure

For one thing the colour, it has to be silver, Black or Guards Red although there are a couple of test hacks in a sort of cream colour. I read somewhere that all UK cars had sunroofs although I do know one genuine car which does not have one.
Also I believe that the Windscreen is bonded.
Ricky Ceaser is the real mine of info on these great cars.

Dave

Dave Jones is correct about the windscreen, the normal 924 screen is set about 10 mm back from the front of the A post, on the GT it is almost flush, again this is another factor which only the most professional conversions (and my race car) will have. Colur wise the correct GT colour is Diamond Silver and Guards Red is known as Indian Red in some markets (Indische Rood in NL / dutch speaking BE). Black's pretty easy [:)]

I'm not too sure about the sunroof, my original GT (LHD) does not have a sunroof, but this could well be the case for the RHD cars as they tended to be better specced as standard at the time.

Ricky is a great source of knowledge, though he hasn't decided to start complicating his life by using computers yet AFAIK, so we're unlikely to see him on the forum.... unless.......

cheers guys

i seem to have found what appears to be an unloved n seemingly abandoned 924 carrera ( i think ) just wanted to make sure its the real deal before i go door knocking on it

Lucky $£"!7** [:D]..... hope you get to take care of it. If it is a genuine GT you should call Ricky & he will probably have the original spec, based on chassis number.
