Hi folks,

Does anyone know how I can update my PCM version 2.20 to the latest version my car support?

Weirdly I can’t find this info on the internet….

Many thanks

Welcome Paul! Are we talking about PCM3.0 (fitted to a 987 Gen2) with system software version 2.20? If so, it can be updated to version 2.25 using update DVDs, but there is a snag. If you update the system software then your current maps will no longer work. Updating the maps isn't simple either. First, you have to update the system software, then enter an activation code using a PIWIS tester, and then load the new maps onto the hard disk drive using 5 DVDs. The latest maps for PCM3.x are December 2021.

Hello Richard, thanks for the reply.

I have a 2011 Cayman R (987) and I’d like to get a CarPlay system installed, but it requires PCM v3 whereas mines old v 2.20.

So I’m trying to find out how I can upgrade the PCM version In preparation.

Thanks

Paul

The highest software level for PCM3.0 is V2.25. As far as I am aware, the CarPlay systems can only be installed on PCM3.1, as fitted to the 981. PCM3.1 has two levels of system software, depending on the age. Early 981s had version 3.x hardware, and the highest software level is V3.43. Later 981s had V4.x hardware, and the latest software version for that is V4.76. (I believe you need 4.x to fit a reversing camera).

It is all highly, highly confusing. Here is a document which explains the version history of PCM3.x

I have PCM 3.0 in my 2012 Cayman R, when i contacted NM Automotive they do indeed do a kit for that PCM and gave me the address of an installer in London, Sextons in Ferrier Street, www.sextonslondon.co.uk this was prior to Covid Lockdown and still not got round to doing anything about it. The PCM 3.0 kit is for Boxters,Caymans 987/997 Gen2 2009-2012 NM Automotive emailed me the Factsheet for the kit and also installation instructions with diagrams if I was brave enough to do it myself.

Ah so you’re with me in that the CarPlay from them looks cool 😎

Hopefully Nick from nm will be able to help with upgrading to v3 so I can buy his kit (would be a win win situation 😄)

Hello Richard.

Sorry I posted this and then noticed you deleted your Post, anyway for the OP, If you scroll down on that page you will see PCM 3.0 listed and a Link to the Fact sheet. I did enquire to PCGB in Reading if it was possible to simply swap a PCM 3.0 head unit out for a 3.1 but the answer was No.

Cheers Simon

PS. my Software is v2.24 so must investigate an upgrade to v2.25

I’m totally bamboozalled and I’m an I.T guy! 😆

During my career there are two things which I practice…

1. “Don’t give me problems give me solutions“

2. “It’s only impossible until you do it”

Lets see what Nick says on Monday 😊🤞🏻
