how DO they come up with tyre prices ?

just wondered how they come up with the price of tyres?
nearly ready to replace my trusty p zero rossos (already had to pay more for the N3 marking on the sidewall)
just browsing this site http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s0p0
looking at toyo proxes T1R as my mate rates them on his track car and they are reasonably priced at £82.80 delivered for 205/50/17 but happened to search
205/45/17 £69.60 !
then 215/40/17 £63.50 !
then 205/40/17 £56.00 !

i know supply and demand affects prices but i dont understand how a pair of low profile 40 series would save me £53 over a 50 series ,almost the price of a single tyre! may compromise and go for a 215/40/17 front instead , or may stick to the right size and not be a stingy scotsman!

I guess its all down to demand.. My dad replaced two rear tyres (305/40/18 from memory) on his Merc CLS, and the rears on my mums smart last weekend.. the tyres on the smart cost more than the CLS; figure that one out!..

He's still bitching and moaning about it now!.. [:D]

If its any consolation I've just paid £290.00 + VAT for rear tyres on my X5...each!!!

For a yorkshireman that was painful i can tell you

I even got charged £6.00 to dispose of the old oil...its one thing paying for the new oil..but charging me for my old oil...[;)][8|]

next time they pull that, refuse to pay the £6 and ask for the old oil back.. I think they are required to make all parts removed available to you as they belong to you; we are at work, we have to keep anything removed for 6 months [:D]
