How does the lower front wing attach to the car ?

Before I go and weld the bottom of the wing to the body I thought that I should check the correct fixing method.

My lower wing is completely unattached from the car along the bottom edge, although it has a lip.
Is this how it should be ?

Looking at the bottom of the inside of a used wing for sale on ebay, it is clear that it was never welded or screwed along the bottom edge !
Is this how it should be ? (see red box )

Does the front wing only fix with the 3x vertical screws leaving the whole of the bottom unattached ? ( see red circle ) 944 lower front wing inner.jpg

On the Turbo / S2 front wing there is a strap / out-rigger on the bottom of the body which attaches to a tab on the wing using a self-tapping screw, would assume the same for an N/A. This is missing on my right wing after it was repaired with no ill effect. You have a large number of screws attaching the top of the wing, 3 at the back and also the couple at the front. Don't forget to use the appropriate sealant between the wing and a pillar to prevent water seeping into the gap.

Ah! so there is a strap missing thanks for that info. it should be easy enough to fabricate one to provide a little extra strength.
My lower wing is badly crushed and hidden behind the plastic wheel arch liner so I cannot see much.

because the lower wing is clearly unattached along the bottom edge I thought that the MOT Tech would assume that it should be welded to the body. it is not clear from the outside of the wing where exactly the structural sill ends . I think most inspectors would assume wrongly that the sill should end at the wheel arch rather than at the edge of the A post where there is a return and closure to the sills.

thanks for posting the image... I never thought to look for a factory wing ...now all I need is for the flippin rain to stop here in sunny (not) Somerset
