How easy to change clutch slave ?

Hi, My clutch pedal went very soft the other day and the biting point was the carpet ! , I checked the fluid and theres none in the resevoir , The Master cylinder looks good so I believe its leaking from the slave cylinder. How easy is it to change the slave ? any advice ?

It isn't hard to do. Just make sure that you have an assistant when it comes to bleeding it. It's a nightmare to try to do on your own, even with one of those magical one man bleed kits.

Ha ha ha ha not hard to do????? You must be joking! I spent hours bleeding, swearing and sweating under my car with my nose touching the sump trying to bleed that b****y slave cylinder which is near impossible to get to![][][]

Mind you if you have a proper car ramp then the job would probably be a 10min joy because I agree it was very simple. just VERY awkward to get the spanner on the bleed nipple!!

It was a £210 job all-in to replace both master, slave and hose on my S2 cab if that gives any indication.

not too bad , I'm going to German Swedish to get the Slave at lunchtime today - £50 +vat, the hose looks ok and the master doesn't seem to be leeking , and I'm still driving the car to work so can't be all shot.

Your cars symptoms do sound exactly like when my slave cylinder started leaking so would think your right there. However I will tell you now, if you dont already have one, get down to Halfords before you start and buy yourself an extra long handled 6mm spanner (you'll know the one I mean when you see it). You cannot get enough reach with a standard length item.

right , I've just picked up the new slave cylinder , i'll let you know how it goes, Although since I've put fluid in the clutch resevoir, the bitting point has gone back to a more acceptable level ,and the pedal isn't sticking sticking half way day, should keep going till the weekend !!

You certainly could do with some life in it to get it up on the ramps - Ben's earlier comment about getting enough height under the car is sooooo true. I did mine with my nose touching the underside - god it's a horrible job when you've got some room, but when you can't move to get to, let alone undo, the bolts..... [&:]

Anyway, you'll be fine...

JOB DONE !!!

Wasn't too bad a job , even bleeding it was ok. took of the starter motor to get to it. FYI 7mm bleed spanner needed not 6mm ;-)
Thanks !!!

I got the part £48 delivered from 911shop. Garaged charged me £50 to fit it and bleed the system. He didnt mind that he had to push the car into his Garage becuase it was completly shot, was going to do it with my step day but when my mate said it will be 20 minute job in his garage i just stuck it in.

He also changed the Maseter and Res + hose too with a 2nd hand one of a low milage 944 i bought awhile back
