How far?

New member
I am not getting much time to use my car at the moment and now will sit for up to 2 weeks at a time between drives

How far will it need to be driven (not how far will I want to drive it [:D]) to get the battery back up to full charge (my garage has no electrickery for a trickle charger), assuming clear roads?

Leaving a car ticking over it takes half an hour to get the charge back up to full again, I presume driving it would take the same.

Does it not depend on what level of charge you are starting from? Found same product here much cheaper[:)]

Do your (little) bit for the planet too[8|] (Said he, driving around in his 3.8 car). Might just get one and try it out anyway.
Mind you, daylight hours required so not much use in Scotland this time of year[;)]

Thanks TS and JS.

I will look into one of those solar panels. I can link that up.

Just done 50 miles in -4.50c and salt and now need to wash the car!

Because I just can't resist a gadget have just ordered one! Will let you know if any it's any good, if you like?
Alan

Normal rule of thumb always used to be -15 miles driving-I suppose little different to 30mins tickover.

Ok Marc will do. According to their website it has already been dispatched! Anyway by next weekend should be able to report back.

I am about to test the "how far" myself today, as Taffy has a flat battery due to the fact I have not been well and have not driven him in ages [:)]

Still it did not stop me chatting on the forum here though did it lol

On the basis that was posted at 14.47 and it is now 19.02 I assume a lot further than you originally thought! [:D]

There will be a little delay posting a report on the effectiveness of the solar charger as the lying toads do not have it in stock and should be sent out Monday. []

I am not sure the weather forecast promises much of a test anyway. [:D] Thanks for the heads up.

That is the only acceptable answer! [:D]

Sun always shines here in Devon - apart, that is, from the 350 days of rain[:(] Charger supposed to work even when cloudy. Have a multimeter so when it does eventually get here should be able to do some reasonably accurate checks on voltage.

Not sure on the supply it gives, but Maplins do a solar trickle charger for a tenner....

Think that one is 50mA at 12v, Gary which doesn't sound a lot! The one I have on order is 500mA. Not sure is that will be enough but will see! Glad you didn't break anything![:)]
