How gender specific is the 944?

An idle thought......I've always considered 944's as pretty 'blokey' cars and was pondering what percentage of our cars have a lady as the owner and sole/main driver?.........5%? I wonder if McNulters has that data from club membership?

Out of curiosity, how many member/guest 944 owners are registered with the club?

My Wife only drives mine under sufference, steering and gearbox too heavy and too low to get in/out of comfortably.

she thinks she may have liked it pre-children as it would have felt a good upgrade to her Scirocco then, but she has been slightly spoilt by her 7 series now sadly....

I reckon you're probably on the right lines with low single number percentages, but I do know a lady who has owned her Lux for well over 20 years since brand spanking new. It's not her daily driver any more, but she uses it now on dry days in the summer, in order to avoid ruining the hyper expensive resto she had done on the car a couple of years ago. It's a beaut.

Reminds me - I need to get my car on the register and get me one of those register stickers. How's it done Mr McNulty?

Sex-wise I've no idea. [8|]

The boy/girl thing I'd suggest probably 5% wouldn't be far out. There are certainly a handful of lady owners I know, but they are very much a minority. I'm guessing that far too many owners have a people-carrier for the family and it's the ladies who have to drive them. Jane always moans about mine, as it's less comfortable than the Legacy, doesn't have aircon, is a squeeze for the dogs, is a stupid waste of money etc, but she always seems willing to drive it if I offer!

There are about 1000 cars in the 944 Register, no idea how many more are "guests" here, and most forum users never post ( or very rarely post). I'd guess certainly hundreds more.

To get on the register just call the office or e-mail Rachel. I've had a new batch of stickers through, and a big backlog of them to send out, so drop me an e-mail with your address and I'll get one off to you. Same with anyone else who's not got one, they are the one performance mod for the cars that is actually proven scientifically to enhance your enjoyment of the 944. [:D]

Belinda really liked our Lux and would drive it at every opportunity. She didn't like driving Beaky at all, and can't now anyway as the seat wont move.

The only time Belinda wasn't happy with the Lux was when I killed the brakes at Snetterton and forgot to tell her when she jumped into the car the following day. [8|]

My wife is worried about the weight of both the steering and the gearchange so if she is typical then I think the number of lady drivers of a 944 is probably low.

Sandy wont drive mine, believes it to be to heavy (no PAS), but how would she know, shes never driven i!

Shes got a Hyundai Coupe so the height is not a problem and she is quite happy to be driven in it!

Few years back there used to be an attractive blonde who attended the 911&porsche world pub meets ,I used to take my 951 done there, her's was a turbo too, silver colour IIRC.. I've not been there in some time... wish I had said HI!...[8D]

Wonder if she still goes???

I sneaked the S2 into our family by buying it for my missus.[8D]

The fact I drove it .... erm.... quite often.....was purely a coincidence. [8|]

My wife's the same, likes the car because it's pretty & a coupe but it's too much hassle to drive it unless she has to because her own car isn't available. Only time I remember hearing my mum properly swear was when I let her have a go & the boost started to ramp up in 2nd gear [;)]

I have just bought my 944 off a canadian lady, in oxford. Trouble is, my kids keep finding long blond hairs in there - I will worry when my wife starts finding them!
She seems to have driven it a lot, and the car still smells a bit girly - needs some "blokey" smells in there, i reckon.

Now this sounds a familiar ploy. My wife drives ours as her daily drive and I get it at the weekends.

I get the picture Andy.....sounds like you a need a quick spray of Essence of sports kit bag as opposed to the current Eau de handag whiff. A pot pourri air freshener with some wood, tobacco, oil and leather tones might also help :ROFLMAO:

Had to marry the current Mrs Hopkin 5 years ago to get her to agree with a degree of understandable reluctance that her 944 Lux was 'ours' and that my ageing executive coupe (the much lamented 'red top' Calibra) was now hers. Anyhow, the Calibra blew up and I have since put 55,000 thoroughly enjoyable miles on the Lux. Now, having recently bought Nick Appleton's 944 Turbo I was considering letting the Lux go ... but in reality it has too much money in it to be given away. To quote Jethro, "What happened was ..." I had thought that I was keeping the Lux 'for life' and certainly didn't expect the 'operating authority' to approve the purchase of a Turbo ... so, along with all the normal servicing expenses, I got all the bushes done, a top end overhaul, replaced the steering, brakes, clutch, suspension, wheels, CV joints, AFM, injectors, radiator, door seals, sills - it all adds up, as we all know! Methinks, I'll soften off the suspension on the Lux and we will have his 'n' hers 944s ... what can possibly go wrong?!
