How long from build to delivery?

Hi... I have a car scheduled for October build, but have not heard a build date yet. What's the typical time between build date and delivery from a UK dealer?

It takes about 3-4 weeks from the time they actually build it to you getting the keys in your hands.

However, you may be quoted October, but you won't know exactly when in October, until they actually start to build it and the status shows up on the computer system.
If it is the first week then you may get it at the start of Nov, but if it is at the end of Oct, you may be looking at the end of Nov.
Bear in mind that each car is built to order, so if there is an issue with your car, they can't substitute another. They have to fix your one and schedule the work to be done. This could delay it by a few days.
On the plus side, at least they check it all so that when it is delivered to the UK it should all be working, on the downside, it means that the OPC is usually evasive when you push them for an exact date.
In my experience they are only confident once the car has actually made it to our shores. Then they will ask you what day you want it. Once it is at the port, it has to go to Reading where it will be PDI'd, finally being transported to your chosen OPC for pick up a day or two before you want it. The process takes about 7-10 days from arriving in the UK (or at least it did for me the last 2 times).

If there is some issue with parts from one of their suppliers, the build can be delayed.
Didn't happen to me, but I heard of others where it did happen.

In summary I would plan for around mid Nov. If it is earlier, then it's a bonus.

Thanks guys. The wait is getting tougher...

I bought a Boxster a few years ago, and despite assurances that I would get a few weeks of advance notice I just suddenly got a call when it arrived. Don't know whether that was because it was a Finnish car, or just lack of joined up systems...

Also, as I am possibly the only person in the world brave, bold or mad enough to have specified Carmon Red maybe they are still shaking their heads and wondering why I have not ordered silver like the other cars comig down the line.... :)

All cars are individually coloured (the line is a mixture - they don't do batches).

As Stuart says, the dealer will likely be cagey about a date because production problems will hold things up. Additionally each engine is allocated to an individual car, and built at roughly the same time. If the engine fails testing, then the car goes to the back of the queue - they can't take the next engine off the line and use that.

It doesn't happen often, but it can.

Mark do you mean it doesn't happen often on-the-line but once you have got it back home then !!!!!!!![] :ROFLMAO:[]

OPC told me that the new 911s are transported by lorry to UK and the transportation is a 3 day process unlike Boxsters which take longer
