How long is a 981?

Having recently parted with my 964, I'm contemplating a 981 Cayman. As well as the usual car-buying questions spinning round my head (e.g. is a PPI worth it when buying from an OPC), I'm a little paranoid about one aspect in particular - the exact length of a 981 Cayman. Hate to do a deal, drive it home only to find it won't fit in the garage!

The 964 was snug fit in the garage, width is fine, but lengthwise, once the door was shut, I was left with about 20cm. IF Wikipedia is to be believed a 981 is ~10cm longer than a 964 - 4374mm. That's tight (100mm to spare), the question is, is that measurement accurate? Anyone care to confirm or dispute the overall length of a 981 Cayman? Any little things that "stick out" (front or back)?

The GTS is slightly longer so that will have to crossed off the list, in terms of length is the Cayman-S identical to the Cayman?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Unfortunately I can’t verify, but looking online 4380mm seems to be the favourite dimension, although that could be a US value. I’m not sure if any official dimensions include the number plate plinth either, which is an additional complication for you. It might be worthwhile contacting a Porsche dealer to see if they can provide definitive information.

I’m sure that the Cayman and Cayman S share the same dimensions.

If you’re purchasing a car from a Porsche dealer you’ll get a 2-year Extended Warranty so a PPI shouldn’t be necessary, although it’s your choice of course.

Good luck!

Jeff

Many thanks Jeff/Richard. I'll go with the 4380mm and measure the garage for the 100'th time!

On with the hunt...

Mark,

Obviously circumstances will dictate but a chap in my village when faced with a similar problem replaced his garage up-and-over door with a roller shutter door and gained some useful inches.
