How long to change cam covers?

Ola,

I have....I think a small all leak from a cam cover.....smokes from rear wheel (near side) when hot...but no oil seems to mark my driveway.

How long do you think it will take to change a cam cover?

Many thanks

Had the job done (both sides) in around 2-3 hours, but that was with two guys working on the car.

The biggest delays I find seem to be waiting for parts ......

I had mine done couple of years ago. Labour was 2.25hrs. Total cost £306. Been perfect ever since. Symptons were what you described.

I did it myself [:)] Gaskets and new bolts both sides approx £20 from OPC, bought a 5mm allen socket for £2.50 from halfords.

Near side was easier, took about 45 mins...offside was somehow harder took 1-1.5 hours, slightly less access no need to remove exhaust boxes, just get rubber heater trunking out of the way.
This is quite a popular maintenance item on the rennlist forum, have fun [:D]

did my left hand side six months ago, took less than a hour, although two bolts were very tight and awkward to access. Got the gasket and new bolts from local OPC for £14.08. If you do it yourself make sure you have various types of allen keys/sockets to help access. I only moved the wheel, if you do have problems, you may have to move the exhaust back box which is'nt too much of a chore.

Yep,did mine myself ,got new gasket and bolts for about £15....just make sure the allen socket is well in the allen head before you start undo-ing,maybe give it a little tap,the last thing you want is to round them off.

I started to do mine but some of the bolts were seized and needed drilling out, so they all went back in and off to the indie.

Can't remember how much but I do know if bolts are not seized it is not a tough DIY, if seized then don't even think about it!
