How many gems are there?

How many really nice, low mileage 930s are there tucked away in garages? Have you got one? Have you seen one?

It seems to me that 99% of all 930s offered to market are awful. I have seen maybe a dozen in the last couple of months and they have all been rubbish. I know others who have looked for ages and who have said the same.

I saw one today that was supposed to be the best one available. The guy is asking an absolute fortune for it and he is arrogant with it, presumably in the belief that he has something that people will beg him for. Trouble is there is a little problem with his car, and the history doesn't quite add up. I won't say more in case he comes here. But even though the car is very nice, it still isn't quite right - and yet its got a huge price tag.

I reckon there must be one or two real beauties out there with proper histories and in showroom condition. But will I ever find one? Right now it doesn't feel like it.

Hi,

I would like to think my 930 is a "gem" but then its all down to the individual. I have service hidtory and 79400 on the clock (not as low as some I'm sure but it certainly isnt what I would call high for an '85 car.

Pic in the "Forum test for Turbo owners" thread.

Yours looks very nice, and if the interior is original and undamaged, and the history of the car is clean, then yours may well qualify as a gem. Well done.

Hi
I managed to find one last year,1989 930LE Turbo Graphite Grey Cream Leather
The old gentleman purchased the car from new and had OPC collect the car and service it each year ONLY 13800 Miles He kept it under cover in his barn as soon as he removed it i knew i had to have it. Absoultly a fantastic car..He only parted with it because he had a fall out with his son to who he had always promised it to and was getting his own back.

He was a very wealthy man ,own Yacht,Aircraft ,all the trappings of wealth, He said his son would only wreck it and had no respect fo anything, If you knew what he did you would have sold it to.

Well it took me nearly four years to find a good one I looked at some right junk as well .
I tracked my one for four years after missing out on it before by £500 only .

It has fsh just done 91000 miles only stainless steel exhaust loads of bills top end done a few years at 70000miles ago to a tune of £7k plus .

Just had four new tyres fuch wheels done before I got it and it was serviced before as well. It came with one months MOT,only it pass a new MOT yesterday got 13 months on it .No problems at all a part from a fog relay switch .
Paid under £20k for it worth a lot more than that when you see what people are still asking for their 930 's .
I am very happy with the car Lemans next month .

SEE YA

I can totally sympathise with your dilema.

A few years ago I embarked on a similar search. Spent 6 months looking over some total wrecks advertised as very good to mint!

Eventually ended up with my 1989 guards red, black leather original low mileage boost machine. It wasn't cheap, but good ones never are.

It still has only 39,000 miles and I wouldn't dream of parting with it.

Carry on looking. Trust me when you find a good one you will see and know the difference.

On count down to Le Mans - again!!

People always say you payed too much for that old car. The reality is though that when you are looking for a car you have to pay a lot of money for a good car.

Did any of you come across my car while looking ? Had her 2 years now.

I am quite aware that it is not the kind of car you were looking for.

I had a similar problem with my bank. I was speaking to them about financing retrospectively a 930. They have a relationship with CAP and referred to them about what a 1987 930 in showroom condition with 44k miles is worth. CAP came back at £11k from a dealer.

I currently have a bet on with my bank account manager. I have promised her that for every 911 Turbo she finds me on a forecourt at £11k, so long as its in one piece, HPI clear and MOTd, I will take her to a restauramt of her choice for lunch wtih champagne.

I am not anticipating denting my expense account any time soon.

Yes, I have had an email dialogue with the guy. It looks OK but the colour is my least favourite of all 911 colours,. Also he is a way away and I didn't want to go all the way to see one car.

Yes, it is. But it is the closest to a 930 you can get.

I have heard that a 930 is closer to a 930. ;-)

Anyway Jonny what are you doing picking cars out of the Sultan's collection? Friend of yours? Could you have a word and see if he has a 930 kicking around for me?
