How much do you fill in your expansion tank?
I always keep mine topped up to the "max" level since i've had it but within a couple of days it drops down an inch or so below the max - never any lower so now believe i'm overfilling as she's not overheating, drives well and has no visible water leaks - so i think the excess is being forced through the breather pipe whilst i drive it after the system's up to temp (i've noticed that when she's warmed up the water level does then go quite a way up the expansion tank).
How much do other owners fill up to?

fill it up to max.remember to top up with antifreeze though with this weather about to hit. an inch is probably about 1/2 litre, so a few water top-ups a week, and you'll be freezing in the block!

remember to check it when it's dead cold though. (ie leave overnight). if it still drops an inch, you have a minor leak, or there was a huge air pocket in there which is working it's way out. maybe a rad cap problem? I think there's an FAQ on www.clarks-garage.com for this sort of thing.

Also worth checking that the pressure cap is still ok. If it releives at too low a pressure, you can have this problem.

Mine has never stayed at Max, and I have new cap new expansion cap and have had it pressure tested at the last 3 12k services. It doesn't drop below min though.

Check it on level ground!

My drive looks flat but when I check the level with the car facing the house it is half way. Turn the car around and its full.
