How much for an S.2 clutch at an OPC now?

Just an idle thought again............I wonder how much an OPC would charge today for a clutch change........rummaging through my paperwork, I've found a receipt from 1998 for said job - no other work or parts....... £1113....and that was at 58k miles....now 145k and glad to to say still okay.

What would be a typical Indy price for the job today?
 
OPCs do have some quite good deals for earlier cars.

I had my 2.7RS engine and gearbox rebuilt by my OPC at a very attractive labour rate. And they did a fantastic job.
 
Indie, I would say £1000-£1200, Patrick at Porschembri near Hounslow is the cheapest in London, did mine for £850 odd, knows what he's doing and doesn't rip you off, Porshworx in Chalk Farm wanted to charge me £800+vat just for parts[&:], seemed to like making the most of the prestigious marque and wanted to charge the earth for the privilege.

I know its the opposite end of the country and not an OPC but Hartech have the price on their website as £770 + vat (£885.50).

I've heard some frightening stories of labour rates at OPC's... £120+ an hour... I'm clearly in the wrong job!
 
So where is the cheapest place to buy an S2 clutch from? So far it seems to be FraserPart for a Sachs clutch at £470.

My clutch is fine but being rubber centred I wonder if I would be silly not to change it whilst the engine is out.

Yes and when you consider how long a job it is to change the clutch it soon adds up.... Not sure how long it takes on an S2 but the 220 turbo book time is 13-14 hours, I would expect the S2 to be an hour or two quicker. So no matter how cheap the labour rates may be it will still be a big bill, if you have access to a ramp and not scared to get your hands dirty you could do it yourself but allow a whole weekend. I did mine with help from a friend , it took 1 1/2 days with long hours..[8|]

Most OPCs should have a discounted labour rate for older cars, pre 996 it should be £77 or so. Also discounted parts if a club member.

Ah, thats getting more like it. I must admit the guy I was talking to owned a GT3 so doesn't quite fall into that category..

[:-] My God. I'm glad mine has plenty of life left in it. Right thats it, I'm getting tips off my Dad in clutch saving, his '83 924 still has its original clutch at 178k!
 
You think that's good? My mate changed his clutch on his Peugeot 306 GTi-6 at 244k! It still had about another 20k left in it too, and it definately was the original clutch! Oh, he doesn't drive like a grandad either (owner of PugRacing.com).

As for saving the clutch, taking it easy on the changes (well, smooth), not riding the clutch etc. all helps.
 
I did the clutch on my S2 a few months ago. Max Schenker at Frazerpart was the cheapest for the parts, at around £400 if I remember correctly. When I priced up the same parts from an OPC it came to well over a grand (yes, just for parts.) Throw in some labour and you could be looking at a fair proportion of the value of the car quite easily ...

The job took a weekend, with two people working on the car (others helped occasionally). In a well-equipped garage with a pit and air tools. No part of the job was at all hard, it's just that there was a LOT to do.

On this topic, if you need to replace the quill bearing on the end of the crankshaft (accessible when you do the clutch), Porsche want about £18 for the bearing. However it is a standard 6202-2RSH bearing, costing less than a fiver from places like this:
