How much of an S2 you get for £1600...

I have been to look at this today http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=300302435856 with a viewing to creating a dedicated trackday car that I could lighten etc.

Having started it up, I thought someone had replaced the fabled 3l S2 lump with an old Ford Pinto engine with a worn camshaft, such was the loud ticking noise from under the bonnet - even worse with the bonnet open! And no, it wasn't the injectors.

Drove it around the block and it felt so, so different to my car - very vague and baggy. Mind you, it didn't help that the fan was stuck on full blast...

The guy had just bought a damage repairable 993 from Douglas Valley breakers ([8|][:'(]) as a project for £10k - allegedly had a cracked block as well as the body damage....!

Oh well, keep on looking [;)]

Ive seen a decent S2 (for your intended use) for £1,600. Mechanically it was sweet having covered just under 70,000 miles and the velour pinstripe was perfect, so good to sell. An exception rather than a rule though and of course, there was a downside: it was a CatD but it had clearly only suffered PU and wing corner panel damage. Ideal for a racer of course.

Look at those pictures and weep, boys and girls. As time goes on, we will see more and more 944's looking this sorry for themselves. Recession = less money = maintenance is skimped on = more and more 'prestige' cars getting ropier and ropier.
