Gotta take my 85 2.5 lux somewhere in a few weeks to get the belts/tensioners changed as i dont know when they were last done. How much should i budget for this work in total inc parts labour etc coz its a job im not confident about attempting myself??

it all depends how much needs changing - you may be best advised to get the waterpump changed as well (good practice seems to be once every 2 belt changes), & there will be rollers & seals to swap out. A simple belt change could be £250-300, but could rise to £7-800 worst case. I would suggest you do get anything done that you are advised on - For example I bought a 924S several years ago with a nice new receipt for belts. What the seller omitted to tell me was that the oil seals were leaking badly, which I discovered a week later when oil started seeping from the bottom of the covers. Of course the whole job then had to be done again - with new belts.

I think that if you dont know the history of the belt - that suggests that you dont know the history of the rollers / tensioners / water pump also.. If that was the case for me - I would certainly chang ethe whole lot at once.. A tighter newer belt could just send your old / worn rollers / tensioners over the edge and to have that pack up would not be good..

Best bet is to get a price on the job before you put it in.. So ask for a price incl belts / rollers / tensioners / water pump etc and then you know what you are up against.

Agreed, what he said ^^^^^

Ring your three prefered specialists and ask them for their opinion and to quote respectively. Then you'll know what to expect.

Just had mine done and cost me £300-ish (it was £500 for Belts, Service & MoT)
I have receipts for the previous 3 belt changes and the other bits, they identified 2 minor oil leaks, but nothing to worry about.

I had a very weak moment recently and booked it into the PSC for this job - around £800 [] for all belts & rollers, cam shaft inspection (inc. a new bolt set which were 'needed') so that should be as bad as it can get.
