how much should this cost?

Unfortunately when i went to start my S2 the cam belt jumped and basically i am in need of a top end rebuild (new valves etc) complete with new belts, tensioners and all that goes with them. How much should this cost me. It will be done by a reputable north east porsche specialist Tom Ferguson.

Why not just buy a 2nd hand S2 cylinder head from a breakers? I'd have thought it would be cheaper - though you're not sure about its history.

You were asking about the noise from the belts, and where to get them done, back in January, if I remember correctly. There were dire warnings about the risk of leaving it, did you get them done?
 
Mine cost me somewhere in the region of £1200 - £1500.
But I needed a new head after a repaired crack gave way - kindly supplied by Mr Empson at a v reasonable price. All of the valves needed replacing and I had recently replaced the cams and chain. I guess it depends on how many parts you need [8|]
 
tracked that noise down to the power steering belt. Unfortunately looks like it just failed! I will know more when the garage takes it apart.

 
well guys, turns out that the cambelt snapped, and when the AA tried to bump start it a piece of valve has come off and scored the bore quite badly, it needs a new cam too. Unfortunately this is uneconomical for me to repair so I have sold the car as a repair - boo hoo. It's a really sad end to the ownership of my first Porsche, and i don't think it's likely that the wife will let me have another for a long time.

Mark, just so I can add this to my huge file of info....

When was the belt last done? Was it within our recommendation of 30k/3 years? Might help others avoid this happening!
 
26k ago, it had a full belt kit fitted all tensioners and balance belts too. Unfortunately it was over 4 years ago, so i only have myself to blame. Silly bugger eh.
