Just got it back! Two weeks away. New front discs, front pads, handbrake shoes, timing belts, cam chain, 3 x rocker-cover bolts, driling and tapping 3 x threads for rocker-cover bolts. Sorting of 2 x seized front pistons in calipers. How much do you reckon in English pounds - parts and labour?

If Paul is right I am sooooo glad that I do just about everything myself!!! Come to think of it I shudder to think how much my old girl owes me in labour charges [:D] She is worth every penny though. Much better than a mistress and more faithfull too [:)]

Bloody hell mate I wouldn't complain about that!!! Then again yes I would cos I am on aold skinflint lol [:D]

Wow that is good!

As a matter of interest are there any members who undertake work for other members - it seems there is a plethora of skilled diy mechanics out there who could tackle some jobs in their spare time.

Like for instance I need new belts and a brake overhaul n my car and would willingly pay - I dread the thought of taking it to a Porsche garage!

Steve I have been asked this before even before I had the 944. Despite the fact that it takes up a lot of your free time there is also the point that garages have insurance. Whilst I am happy and confident to work on my own car I personally wouldn't like to be held responsible for something that went wrong on your car after I had repaired it. For instance brakes. Cambelt would be another good example.

There's a 'Business Park' just on the outskirts of my village [near Wetherby], and when I needed my cam replacing on my blue 944 a friend told me about this guy on the Business-Park "who always had Porsche's in bits". I called to see him and he said he could replace the cam for £300 - I had already sourced it on eBay for £49, you may recall...

The blue car has now sold, with new exhaust cam fitted, and I thought I'd get the Red One in for the aforementioned bits doing. Didn't think the work was excessive at all (money wise) as he had masses of work to do.

Issues that arose were 3 broken rocker-cover bolts, which had to be drilled and tapped for new ones - these are not cheap either (see previous thread!). Seized pistons in callipers, and jammed-in pads ('plate-lift' I guess...).

Now I'm gonna get some bodywork attended and sprayed. Should be a treat then...

No, different guy. Got a quote today for £225 for sorting out patches / chips etc. Gonna get it done in new year. Same bloke is doing it that painted the whole of red S2 which 'Driven Image' had advertised on their site / eBay / Pistonheads for a while. He did a great job - as link...

Sounds like good value - what do you mean exactly by 'patches'? I really need the bottom of the drivers-side wing sorting, where I think it has taken a whack and the plastic trim is loose, plus my badge panel and a few other bits...
