Have any of you folks replaced the 2 corner support brackets on the rear bumper. The ones which are pron to disintegrate and look like a lobsided 'Y' PET number 965 505 495 00.

Have enquired at my local OPC .... a wopping £100 for the pair, gulp!! which included my PCGB discount....... just for a bit of fabricated tube! checked porscheshop and design911 and they are more expensive.

Any suggestions on where to purchase, hopefully at a fraction of the price?

I would try ebay or a breaker - old ones that are not rusted through can be found but are rare as they go pretty easily. You are looking for some old stock else from a car being broken up but had those changed recently. I would look at European ebay folks/breakers too.

I doubt a small machine shop could fabricate for much less than the price but if you know a local engineering company you could try - the parts are very simple - a blacksmith working with tube metal could do it.

Pelican do them for $115.50 not sure if thats each though. Your price does not seem that bad if the pelican price is even for a pair by the time you add shipping cost, import duty etc. My suggestions would be to see if you can either get a sheet metal company to make you some or try to find secondhand ones breakers douglas valley may have them but I have heard they can be a bit pricey. If it was me I would just get them from porsche as secondhand ones may not be that good either.Just think that the orignal ones have been on the car for some 16+ yrs so its just one of those things.

sorry I cant be more help.

Tim

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll most prob' end up with the ones from the OPC, if i can't source them for a better price. Thought i would check with you folks first, as when you compare the price of these brackets against other well engineered 964 parts, the price doesn't quite equate! but that's life i suppose. Thanks for posting.

Hi Paul,
Do you mean the two support tubes that tie the bumper to the body, situated just behind the rear wheels? If so, I've also recently ordered the parts and can confirm that the main support tube is c.£35 (each), that was Newcastle OPC. My originals weren't y-shaped as they didn't have the cross member to triangulate, just the lower connection. I think the y-shaped piece is an updated part. Mine is a '90, which must have been before the update. Consequently there are a host of other parts that need to be ordered to complete the update.

Don't suppose anyone has been through this conversion already?

If it helps, the part that I ordered was 964.505.475.00, which is the support tube.

Hi Neil,
The supports directly behind the wheel are good and as you say, are approx £35. The supports i refer to are the further most ones, near the corners of the bumper. The PET part number 965 505 495 00. Both of these supports tie the bumper to the body. The ones i want are probably more expensive as they are more likely to require replacement !!

Looks like that is yet another part that has suffered fromt the recent hike in parts prices. I bought one of the Y shaped bumper supports for 30 quid about 18 months ago from my local Porsche centre.

As I own an engineering co,I could easily make them but Porsche wouldn't be pleased. In fact ,this may be moderated,so don't tell anyone

Why? What's the difference between you making a copy of these and the producers of other pattern parts, e.g. wings?
