how NOT to weld a 912

I came across this web picture and I was well kinda shocked to see welding like this.. I know it is a fellow 912er in the US but I fear to tell the truth.. YOU CAN'T WELD...

Please if some one here in the UK is strugerling with welding ask on here or Ask Barry on DDK because this sort of repair is just going to make the car very weak!!

It's just taken me about 3 days to get my mig reset up and working right.
I even had to call Barry because I thought I was going mad..

New liner New Rollers New WIRE NEW tips and now I am there. Welding is an art but any one can do it with practice.. but welding like above please NO!!!!!
 
there is SO much wrong with it..

Metal not clean
Too much wire feed
No direction to the joint
no penertration that will efect a good joint
not in line
just a bloody mess!!!

the panel does not even line up see the bottom line the main sill ( new panel ) is to close to the body and there for this patch will sit proud!!

Also the welding is doing nothing , no penertration and 50% of it does not even do any thing other than stick the new metal!!

ar this is not good..

I have been involved in welding since I was 14 and most of my fitting days involved welding but when it comes to thin body work you have to restart again because with industrial it's thicker and you can get away with more.. plus the whole idea is to get deep into the metal, with body work it is that you have to get it deep into the metal but not too deep it blows a hole...

I use Co2 which is OK but with an Argon mix I can get better welds I might gets some in the new year.
 
The guy who taught me to gas weld, would have described that as "birdshit on concrete"I wouldn`t worry about the integrity as I can`t imagine he`ll ever get it back together and running.
