How tight are yours?

I think I read in previous posts that if my alloys have a pair of numbers either side of the valve then they are official Porsche alloys. The problem I have is that the plastic centres on both front wheels have vibrated out. Fortunately, I managed to remove one whilst it was simply sticking out a bit, but the other simply disappeared during the drive to work one morning. Therefore, my question is, surely I shouldn't expect this to happen if all the parts are matched, i.e Porsche parts?

Just because the wheels are genuine it doesn't mean the centres still are after 12 years+. Even if they are they can degrade. Metal ones have a metal spring clip that can weaken or break - I guess the same goes for plastic ones which are held in by the plasticity of the, erm, plastic [&:] which will get brittle over the years and soaking with alloy cleaner.

I have recently replaced the original, plain black, 14 yr old, centres on my 3.2, with those carrying a coloured crest, from PorscheShop. On both types, the fitting part is annodised steel with a series of dimples on the cap which fit into an annular groove in the wheel. Both the old and the new are a seriously tight fit!

They are totally different on Fuchs wheels and Design 90 / Teledial / Cup wheels though.

I appreciate that, but the Question was simply posed, with no qualifying statement. How tight are yours? So I answered it!

I lost one of my original silver/black ones a few years ago and bought a replacement which was so obviously new compared to the others that I sprayed them all and colour painted the crests.

The other three originals were impossible to removing using the two holes on the centre cap so I had to remove the wheels and bash out from the inside. Goodness knows how the 'missing' one came out by itself

lost one from my bogster a couple of years ago..so i don't think it matters how old the car is. its just one of those things.[&o]

Paul - I agree. As I stated previously, the ones on my 3.2 Fuchs's are............. tight enough, but they will remove ok, if you have the right tool.

Regarding your unfortunate loss. Maybe, just maybe, it didn't come out by itself eh!
