How to check if 2 or 4 pot rear calipers fitted?

Is there an easy way to visually check whether I have original 2 pot rear calipers or later 4 pot rear calipers on my car?

Don't want to have to take anything apart to check (but could manage take the wheel off).

Want to check if my car has had the upgrade or not.

Ian,

I do know that 89 to 91 model years have 2 pot calipers.

Mine is a 1993 model year which has them fitted and I believe it was 1992 onwards.

Ian,

I suspect the shape of the caliper would give it away. If you imagine that the piston requires a circular outline in the caliper housing, a 2-pot caliper will have a single circular outline, the 4-pot will have 2 - a bit like a figure 8. If I recall the 4-pot calipers are significantly larger that the 2-pots and are almost identical to the front calipers.

Hope that helps.

Dave

As easy as looking through the wheel spokes even.... so I have confirmed I have the 2 pots as suspected.

I shall sort out getting some 4 pots to upgrade. I know you need a set of 4 pot calipers, new pads and a new brake bias valve (55 bar).

But is there anything else you need for the conversion? Do you need new disks or are the disks the same between between the 2 and 4 pot set up?

Ian.

PS Before you all chime in no I don't want to go to the hassle of 993 upgrade or RS upgrade or Big Red upgrade. LOL. Prefer to spend the money on some lowered springs.

Just bolt them on, you "may" need to replace the copper/nickel hard line to the brakes, but thats it.

Kevin.
