HOW TO FIT CRUSE CONTROL ?

Cruise Control is a very useful option, particularly if you do a lot of motoway driving (especially long european stints). It can take some getting used to but, once you have, it can be difficult to live without. It teaches the driver to look ahead and anticipate.

However, retro-fitting is a nightmare. I had it retro-fitted to a 944 turbo in 1988 and it cost £850. Nowadays, to retro fit it to a 996 would probably be twice that. There will be other 'aftermarket' systems, but I'd be wary about fitting them to a 996, worth exploring though.

I never got used to cruise control, as, with no feet on the pedals, the only way my right foot could find the brake was to find the throttle, and then the brake. Really weird sensation.

Not too dangerous, as I would only use it on motorways, and I try to avoid braking on motorways. (no brake lights showing, no panic braking behind me).

John,

The trouble with Cruise Control is, every manufacturer seems to have a different system and locate it in a different position. It can therefore be very difficult to get used to.

Fortunately the Porsche system is very good and conveniently located.

Once you do get accustomed to CC it is very useful. I wouldn't buy a regular road car without it.
