How to fit rear seatbelt mounts?

The garage where I go struggled with suggesting how to drill mounting holes. Is there an easy way? Someone must have domne this before.

I'm fitting inertia belts to my coupe and it appears to need either removal of the rear screen or a 90 deg drill. Any threads on other Porsche sites?

Hi Nigel, how old is your 3.2 Carrera? I had an '85 and when I removed the parcel shelf, there were cut-outs in the sound proofing, which I popped out only to find that the holes and welded in nuts were already there. It was very easy to fit the belts after that.

unfortunately not so easy. Have taken out shelf and cut outs but no sign of any holes or marks for drilling. Thanks all the same.

You can drill the holes without removing the screen - I did it on my RS, from below (removed air filter housing and pulled down the soundproofing first). The issue is in spreading the load - some kits come with large washers or plates - don't just rely on a small washer to do the job - a bar is even better.

like Malcolm i fitted rear belts to mine and all the holes were there . mine is an 1984 model. what year is yours?

There was an article on "911 & Porsche World" from a few years back showing how to do it (if I remember rightly, it was done on a 964 and assumed the nuts where there already). If you are really interested, I can "get" this info to you.

I did it on my 86 car recently, and again all the pick-up point were there behind the sound proofing. I'm intrigued that yours dosen't have them Nigel.... not what you wanted to hear and no help.... sorry
 
My 964RS had a genuine lightweight shell - no captive nuts whatsover - not all RS were built using these shells though. I am aware that later SCs had captive nuts despite not having rear belts, but am pretty sure those nuts were just there for lap belts and that there was no provision for these on the rear shelf.

My car is an 84 Italian car, I have checked all over the rear shelf,there are no pre-drilled holes. I have the rear shelf to accomadate the belts, courtesy of the PCGB day at Husbourne Crawley. I hope to be drilling through the shelf from underneath this week.

Does anyone know exactly how far in from the edge one should drill, the edge being the front of the 2" raised part of the rear shelf. I need to ensure sufficient clearance for the bolt to clear the rear firewall yet the cut outs seem to put it right on the lip.

I have had some plates made up, about 5x10cm depth of 4mm. Drilled to the size of the hole in the belt mount, will use large washers to spread top/bottom load.

Let you know when it's done, will take photos and measurements for those who may follow later!

As to the article in 911 World I have it already, his had pre-drilled holes.....easy for him!
