How to fix rear hatch catches ?

I am in the process of going round my car and fixing all the wee annoying things. I have been buying loads of catches on e-bay for the last few years. I just bid £5 on a pair and if I win I win if not then no loss. I have got about 5 pairs now. So I picked the best pair and installed them into the car. But when I tightened up the nuts holding them on they stuck in the open position. Bugger !!!!!!

So I used another one that worked well but didn't have as strong a spring action on it. Then I thought " I wonder if I could refurb the sticky one with the good spring". So I put it on the pillar drill and drilled out the rivets holding it together . Then I opened it up and removed all the bits from inside and cleaned them, then I rubbed the bits with 240 grit paper and re-greased them and put them back together .Hey presto a perfect catch.

Here are a couple of photo's of what I did . Just the bits before I cleaned them.

Interesting I would just back the nut off a tad till they did what they should. Didn't get any hatch rattle or movement

I used Terry's method too on one side of mine, the other is ok. Incidentally how much are they new from OPC?

Well in that case Colin could have had 2 brand new ones instead of 4 sets of duffers! And I think I'll order up myself 2 new ones tomorrow to complete my rear hatch transformation!!

They must have come down in price. The last time I bought any from Porsche was for my 924 back in 1999 and they were £40 each then. And at £20 each would have been able to get 8 sets at £5 a pair and not 4.

I was surprised the 944 ones are different to the 924 and the 968 are different again ....mine were £22 less discount +vat

I too brought used ones until I found out the cost [:(]
