how to make the lights on the dials brighter

Hey Guys

I know this question has been asked a million times.

But can any one advice me on the best way to make the lighting for the dials brighter?

I have tried with bright led light replacing the bulbs behind, however they made very little difference.

So if any one has a good walk though I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Leds make little difference if the reflective material on the triangular prisms has worn.

Spraymount foil on these - taking care not to short any wires and then give it a try

see www.porkaparts.com on the project page for pictures cheers

Thanks

However I tried that one already, didn't make much of a difference.

Any thing else i could try?

Thanks again for all your help.

I've got the proper replacement kit waiting to be fitted at some point, but my dials on the new car aren't too dim and I actually like the less dazzly light at night.

Details are in this thread in the faqs http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=485357

I might be tempted to part with mine for what it cost, still unopened if anyone's interested. I might even e-bay it one day and get twice what it cost. [:D]

Hey thanks for the link.

I was considering trying some thing like that with a light bar instead of 3 LED's.

You said you got a replacement kit. From where did you purchase them?

I might consider getting a pair.

Again thanks for every thing.

Can get them in white, blue and red

Thanks Suffolk944

They look great, I am in the process of trying that out with a led strip that I got.

Instead of 3 LED's I am attempting it with 9 LED's

I will lets every one know how it works.

However I prefer using mod's that don't require any major modification to be done.

I would like to try and keep my car as original as possible.

Thanks for every ones ideas so far.

i took out my cluster the other day

used paint thinner to take of the old silver coating then just taped tin foil on

stuck in three new sidelamp bulbs and boom . . . much brighter !!!

i did try leds but they wouldnt work for some reason [X(]

ive ordered a set of LED's from ebay that the seller says work

ill let you know how they go as they were £5 for 4 bulbs (although i only have 3 bulbs in my cluster)

Hey delboy1974

well I stripped the old silver coat off too and have also stuck aluminium tape on them to try and see if I could increase the light coming out.

As for your LED's not working, did you make sure that the poles on the right way around.

I had a similar problem when I installed mine, then i reversed them around and the worked.

So if you still got yours, give it a shot.

ill give these ebay ones a go tomorrow

Hey Delboy

Any luck with the ebay LED's?

I'm still messing with my dash trying to get the perfect light setting.

It's a real shame that no after market specialist, has sat down to make a new dash configuration for the 944.

Any how back to work.

What the Jager (and the old FlamingEye) kits do is remove the acrylic reflector blocks completely, rather than trying to refurb them.

The reflectors were necessary in the days before we all used LEDs, because the traditional bulbs were bigger and had to sit out of the way"”hence using reflectors to diffuse and direct the light.

So nowadays, instead of fitting LEDs exactly where your original bulbs were, we can throw away the prisms and fit LEDs where they used to sit, shining directly up on to the dials. That's what the kits do.
