How to remove Becker CD/Radio?

After years of searching for a reasonably priced replacement for the faulty CDR-32 unit in this car, I've finally found a service agent to repair it, not too far away, and so need to remove the whole unit from the car. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to do this?

Thanks

Ed

I would be very interested in the answer too. I'm lead to believe the alarm is connected to it?

I would also be interested in the company you are using. My cdr 22 locks up and the only way to switch it off is to remove the fuse.

You need a pair of Becker removal keys - a couple of quid on eBay:

No need to worry about the alarm, unless you plan to remove it while the car is locked!

Here's how it comes out:

Thanks very much, Richard. I presume the keys are different for different units? I can't see any like the ones in your photo on eBay at the moment.

The Becker keys are standard for all their units.

Edit: Looking closer, I see what you mean about the ones on eBay. Some seem to have rounded ends like the pukka Becker keys, and others are just angled.

I've got a pair. If you want to borrow them, drop me an email with your address. You can post them back when you are finished with them.

Here is a better looking one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-PC5-132-Car-CD-PINS-Radio-Stereo-Release-Removal-Tools-Key-For-VW-Audi-/400666624943?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item5d499783af

Seems like the Audioleads PC5-132 is a good equivalent. There are several on eBay from about 99p a pair, or if you are in a hurry, Halfords have them for £3.99:

The service agent is Les Evans & Son in Shrewsbury, (lesevans.co.uk). I've delayed replying in order to process the transaction, and let you know the success - or otherwise! So far, I dropped the unit in at the shop in Shrewsbury last Saturday, and he has completed a repair, including a fault with the amplifier gain, that I hadn't realised was a fault with the unit - assumed it was the antenna/connection. I hope to have the unit back in the next few days, and will report on results. Under £80 in total, including P&P, so if all is OK, I'm well pleased with that!

Well ... I had the unit back, with the controller shell replaced, and the amplifier gain fixed, but unfortunately, there's still a fault with the tuning, that was there before, but presumably hasn't been noticed. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this? I can't store any stations in the preset buttons. Five or six of them already have stations assigned, but I can't find any way to assign further ones, or change the existing assignments. I'm suffering from not having a manual for this unit (CDR-32 - pretty rare I think), but I've been using the manual for the CDR-220, which looks very similar, apart from cosmetic differences.

The procedure I'm following is to use the menu button (down arrow) to switch to the menu and then selecting MAN for manual tuning. I then tune to the station I want using the right hand knob (I know there are other ways of doing this, but they don't seem to make any difference). After a few seconds the display returns to normal, and it should then be possible to assign the tuned station to any of the preset buttons, by pressing and holding the chosen button. This always used to work when I first had the car, but latterly, and still, if I use a preset button with a station already assigned, the radio just retunes to that station, and the other buttons, with no station currently assigned, don't do anything.

I'm planning to go back to the repairer on Friday, but if anyone has any good ideas in the meantime, I'd be grateful.

Thanks

Ed
