How to remove dashboard?

CCL

New member
Was replacing top airvent today (long vent, 5 screws, directly under windscreen) - and dropped 1 x screw which has fallen between dashboard top and metal surface underneath, and slid out of view. As you might imagine, I am not too happy right now!

Can anyone tell me how to lift the dash top off?

Thanks!

Chris

Can you not buy a magnetic retriever to recover it instead of taking off the dashboard cover?

The dash top is fairly easy. One screw either side hidden behind the pop-off cover revealed when the door is opened, the four screws across the top and the one awkward one behind the clock. You'll have to pull out the clock and get a small socket on the nut to release the front part of the dash top. The fear may be that your lost screw may still not be accessible since it may have disappeared down the air vent.

I see you have a LHD - is the clock the instrument nearest the centre of the dash on yours? On mine, RHD, clock is by the driver's door. Do the instruments just pull out?

Thanks for your help.

Chris,

You're right. I just imagined the instruments would be reversed so in your case you would have to remove the left-most instrument. Yes, the instruments are just held by friction in a rubber ring. A bit of gentle persuasion, sometimes with a protected screwdriver blade, will help to get it started and then just lever it out with your fingers. A bit of soap will help the re-install.

Dave
