How to replace bonnet badge?

Hi Folks,

I recently bought a new badge for the nose-cone of my 1988 924s... the old one is a bit ropey to say the least!

I was wondering how to access the back of the nose panel to replace the badge - there are some screws visible in the engine bay by the front of the bonnet but I didn't know what else might be hidden that needs to be undone.

Any advice would be most welcome - I don't have a Haynes.

I'm a just bought a 924S and while I can't help with the bonnet badge for sure..

(in my experience with other cars they are not bolted on but rather held in place with mastic or an adhesive pad, the ?two? prongs of the badge fit into holes in the panell but are there for some mechanical stabilty rather than to have bolts or screws put on the back)

Anyway as a fellow 924S owner I was wondering about your expericences with the car. Any problems or whats been replaced/renewed on the car while you've owned it etc.

New power steering rack
New balljoints and wishbone bushes.
 
On my 944's the badges were just a push fit in to plastic sleeved (a bit like a rawlplug in concept).

You will find however that people have often bent the pins on the badge after pushing in "just to be sure" [&o]

The badge actually comes with two metal/nylon push-nuts that the prongs locate in on the other side. I removed the 4 screws but the nose only lifted a few inches - not enough to access the old badge. Looks as though the front bumper would have to come off!!

I have only owned mine for a few weeks... but aside from a full service it has needed wiper blades, battery, rear "924s" script and a new CD player/electric aerial.

This weekend I will be painting the wheels as they look a little shabby for my liking.

The badge is just a press fit.

You simply need to use a broad flat bladed implement, with some form of protection to protect the paint and lever the old badge out.

Repainting the wheels. Hmm How ? Are they the original teledial alloys (Aluminium??)

If so are you going to paint with silver or a clear laquer??

Servicing... The belts, brakes etc are something I'm leaving to the proffessionals but changing the oil, plugs, filters and checking the belts and levels are something I can do myself. Plus I hate to pay upto £185+VAT for a garage to do it.

What do you think! Self servicing or garage ??

I was going to smooth the teledials with very fine wet/dry with water.. then aluminium paint followed by lacquer. The only other alternative is to have them properly refinished and polished then relacquered which would be much more expensive.

The extra cost (when having a full service done) of having the garage do oil, filters and plugs is so small that I prefer them to get dirty and tired!!!...... the only exception might be an interim "lubrication service" where ONLY oil and oil filter need to be done - in which case I would do it myself.
