How to seperate Mirrors from Mirror bases?

Hi there,

I have removed my mirrors for painting, but how do you remove the bases from the mirror housing please?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards

It is not easy! I have not done it, but looked at doing it for same reason as you - it is marginally annoying that (if I fold the mirrors up) I can see red paint where a previous owner clearly did not bother separating them when he/she painted them. However I never do this and cannot see any sign of red with mirrors in any normal position. So decided I'd accept them as they were.

This thread over on the 944 area gives a sign of what you need to do: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=594732

thanks very much for the reply - quick question. Once you have it under compression from a 1/2 inch socket do you just turn it to release do you think? It isn't quite clear from the post or maybe I am missimng something!

Hi,
To be honest it is exactly that type of question that caused me to give up on the task when I was looking at doing it - being fairly inexperienced with a spanner![8|]

I'd re-post on the original thread, because the 968/944 boys are doing this type of things all the time.

Then let us know!
