How to tow a Boxster.

Came across a Boxster today stuck in the snow.
Tried to tow him out, but could not find out how to.

Most new cars have a towing eye which screws into somewhere in the front......asked the driver if he had one, he first looked in the back of the car, then looked under the bonnet. Told me he did not know if he had one. Looked at the front of the car and could not find anywhere else to attatch the tow rope without damageing the car. There was lots of snow around the front of the car and I might have just been missing it.

Just for future, how and where do you tow your cars (and if there is a towing eye, where is it normally kept).

Many Thanks.

In my 986, the towing eye is in the toolkit housed in the spare wheel well. At the front of the car you remove the small cover left of the number plate (looking at the front) and screw in there. At the rear there is a similar removable cover on the right of the rear number plate (looking at the rear).

Sorry, but this guy could not find his spare wheel either, dont think it had one.
Where is it meant to be?

If its a 986 then the tool kit is in the well of the spare wheel, the spare wheel is in the front boot and has a black cover over it- the cover has a pocket at the front and the top and bottom half of this is split and held together by velcro - pull the velcro apart and the wing nut is exposed to release the spare wheel- The toolkit is wrapped up and inside this is a towing eye the screws into the front or rear bumper area as described.

If its a 978 there is no spare wheel as they have a tin of inflating goo - dont know where the toolkit is stored on this car but a 987 owner will soon come along and tell us

at the trackday last yr the marshall found the towing hook in the front boot and screwed it into the front apron just next to the number plate after removing a disc -i felt i shouldve known but apparently i wasnt the first!!!

I once observed someone being shown the spoiler going up and down via the "button".

The owner hadn't been aware that the car had a spoiler at all! [&:]

987s have a screw in towing eye in the toolkit which is in the front boot, at the base of the rearwall of the luggage area. (carpeted panel) - turn the two plastic securing screws and remove the panel - the tyre gloop, toolkit and tow eye are stored on the rear of this panel. The tow eye screws in to the left of the number plate, there is a painted cover to remove first.

Brill thanks very much.
Found out today that a MGF cannot be towed from the front, or at least it is very hard.

Thanks again for all the above, at least I now know, and will look like I know what I am doing if/when I have to tow a Boxster again[:)]

Not sure its exactly the best way to move a stranded Boxster - i think its probably OK for recovering from a gravel trap on a track day, or winching onto a tow truck, but for full on towing for say a few miles i'm not so sure .

In reply to Black8OXSA.
It had to be moved, was blocking the whole road, nothing could pass.[;)].

Think the driver wished he had left it at home also[;)]
