How wide is a 944

My 944 Turbo arrives Thursday evening. It needs to live in my garage next to the Caterham 7 on its trailer.

I've got the trailer wheels on casters right up against one wall. I have 1755mm left at the narrowest point between some very fixed shelving and the Caterham trailer in which to fit the 944. Where the drivers side door should open I have two feet width more so hopefully I don't have to go through the sunroof to get in and out. My big book of Porsche tells me a 944 Turbo is 1735mm wide. Does anyone know if that is including wing mirrors or wing to wing. Moreover is the back wider than the front. I've looked on the internet but found nothing.

It should go in no matter what as I have a whole 20mm to play with but it would be a comfort to know......

Thanks

Not sure but I suspect not across mirrors, think its wing to wing.
I also have a book quoting 1735mm but also quotes the 1687mm for the 924. 924 and 944s are the same across the mirrors = tight![:)]

I think thats going to be correct isn't it.

Bu**er.

I think I might make some "rails" from strips of wood to guide it in and out past the mud guards on the trailer.

I'm building a house at the mo and it has a much bigger garage.

Sounds like you will need to mount a pulley on the front wall of your garage so you can use the tow eye and a rope to park the car. Good thing the tow hook mounts in the center otherwise might be tricky. [:D]

Just kidding of course but the Top Gear episode where Clarkson is trying to get into a GT40 after Hammond parked something else beside comes to mind.

Ive found that parachute cord guides hung from the ceiling help massively in situations like this, where clearance is extremely limited. Batons fixed to the floor would make an excellent back-up too.

Dont do what my mate did with an XR2i many years ago. He painted a beautiful white line on the garage floor and up the wall, offset to the right the correct amount for him to line up with when driving in, and it worked perfectly until he got an XR3i.........

It would be great if I could get Mrs Andy to guide me in but she'd struggle to guide me into a dry dock. I can't put her behind the wheel as (despite being a mum of two and a svelte size 8) she has the steering input of a rhino. The only person I know who hits the apex of a corner freewheeling and braking. We agreed there was no point putting her on the 944 insurance......
