HPI checks

I have carried out a HPI check on a car, finding it all clear including it not being a import.
Having now checked with my local OPC, they have told me that the car was a import on the 27/11/02!
The log book shows the first owner registering it on the 1/12/02 who are a well known leasing company.
DVLA say that if the car is imported from within the EU they will not class it as a import!
Has anyone had this problem and how does it effect the car value?
Will i still be able to get a OPC warranty on the car?

Get the owner of the C4s to list the numbers on the VIL sticker found in the Service handbook and under the bonnet. One of the first options would be 'C16' if it was a UK spec car. Yours might be a 'C98' (Cyprus - not uncommon) and would certainly affect resale prices by a few k. An extended warranty would still be available for this car though.

I recall there was someone here with a C98 car who had problems with insurance because it didn't have the alarm siren and tilt sensor.

I've HPI checked a few cars recently. I don't recall them volunteering any info on the "import" status. Which HPI check company are you using?

Anyway, on a 911, it needs to say "C16" or "big discount".

A friend has recently sold an imported (Japanese) Honda S2000 back to a UK dealer and it did not worry them much (ie they did not use it as a major bargining issue)

As a by the way, I'm almost certain that the HPI only covers up to a value of £10,000 if incorrect. Maybe not enough in the the case of some marques!

I did take a picture of the VIL, what i can make out is: C25 425 567 650 580 900

I used the RAC website for the HPI as they have an offer on at the moment of £5.

So i does look like an import if it hasnt got C16!

Not sure about C25.

C23 Australia
C24 New Zealand
C26 South Africa

425 - Rear Window Wiper
567 - Top Tinted Windscreen
580 - Non-smoker Package
650 - Electric Sunroof
900 - ???

Looks like it's the time of year for Thai imports......Portiacraft are currently selling a 993 turbo 'S' for £69k which is allegedly a C25 as well.

Since when have the Thais joined the EU?[:D]

It won't be long....

BTW - where did you get that country code from? Could you check to see if there are any others missing from my list: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=230972 and let me know so I can update it.

A guy I know, spoke to Porsche Reading directly about the car at Portiacraft and they told him it's a C25 - a Thai import. That's how I know.

Richard,
I notice on http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=230972 you have
C16 England
Is that really what Porsche AG call the market? What code goes to cars supplied by OPC Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen?[;)] Do we get our own country code up here?[:)]

Mark

I got that list from Adrian Streather's web site, as it was the most comprehensive I could find. He states that the list was updated by Porsche in a 2002 Technik, so maybe you guys in Scotland, Wales, and Ireland are driving English imports!! [:)] [:)]

Tifor, I wouldn't touch it. If it's not a C16 car then it probaly wont have a Thatcham Cat.1 alarma and as such will be difficult to insure. The main insurers wont cover you, obviously someone will but at a price. Call your broker and ask them.

Also check the VIN to make sure of the age of the car.

I had an AA data check done on my car as well as an HPI check although they both source their information from the same source, DVLA. Both showed it not to be imported and to have been manufactured in 2005. All this information was wrong, it was manufactured in 2003 and was imported from Cyprus.

Be very careful of anything that looks even remotely suspicious.[&:]
