Anyone got or seen one of these?:

Or...

Way at the other end of the price / technology scale, but arguably a step up from trolley jacks and axle stands:

Would probably want to modify that one to catch the jacking points though...

Thoughts?

No affiliation to this company by the way, just wasting time on Ebay!

Cheers

I ordered one of these from the USA and I am well pleased ith it. It raises just over 2x feet so not as high as some but it is relatively light and just stores against the wall. I think its brilliant. You can see it in action if you want to visit (south coast-Bexhill).
Many of these lifts allow poor access to some areas of the car but this one is great for access. I use it all the time.

I have one like the first automotech link. Works fine for my c4. Infact the car is up on it right now with the engine out. Has paid for itself a couple of times over.

I have also been looking to buy one of the scissor lift types. 1299 is not a bad price...

I can feel my money burning a hole in my pocket again!

I really want one too but my kids drain all my free cash and I still need to save up to buy the parts for my DIY rebuild, so if anyone owns a scissor lift and fancy hiring it out for a day or two let me know!

I have been promising myself one for years particularly as I get older & being cramped hunched up under cars is not as attractive as it used to be.
I also intend to combine it with a floor pit with lights /power sockets giving full standing headroom with steel side bearers allowing the use of one of those axle jacking doofers.
Beats raising the garage roof high enough to clear cars on a 2 post lift.

Too ,right ,Marcus--Having the right tool for the job is more important to me nowadays--why did I struggle to dismantle my KEK pressure washer when now with my ÂŁ3.48 extended Tech bit screwdriver,I can do it 10 times an hour if I like (which isn't helping to get the new Turbo antiroll bar fitted to the e-bay 924S).
How's the new " monster" coming on?

Father in Law.. - how did the 'shakedown' trip to France pan out with the new car? Neil was asking when you might be wanting to get the RS rear bumper, brake ducts etc. underway?

or are you still in a Super U carpark awaiting int. recovery>?

I had a pit built in to my garage at the old house - sides were those hollow cement blocks faced with comcrete, top of the walls was stepped to take 8" x 2" stress graded timber planks that went across the width of the pit. Being stress graded I could drive across the timber to position a car (pit was crossways at the back of my garage) plus I could use my hydraulic jack off any of the timbers, put axle stands or blocks anywhere - flexible cheap solution! I did not put lights in the walls, which in a way was a mistake, but instead I used free standing 500w halogens - which not only meant I could position them exactly where I needed light, they also gave out goodly amounts of heat - you'd be surprised how cold it can get in a pit!

God I miss my garage!

Don't call me God--,Chris-I can do many things but not miracles.[;)].
Iv'e missed a pit all my married life as my dad had one at home-almost the best thing since sliced bread.

However living in Formby, the main problem will be the high water table so I was considering one of those glass fibre tanks to bed into the ground--I reach water 18" down-in sand.wouldn't want to float away in the middle of a job[&o]

Ah, shakedown went well, thanks Greg. Stacks more torque it seems. Did get some finger wagging and French comments though from some woman at stop lights when trailing me through some town while I was in second gear. Little niggles I need to sort - like not being able to disarm the flippin after market alarm that was fitted (that's the first thing I'll be ripping out next!). Then that alternator warning light that comes on/off even though the belt sensor wheel is in tact and working fine.

I'll sort out dates with you for the other stuff. I need those scissor lifts from the US... On Santa's list.

Anyone got a black interior they want to sell/swap?

Probably a sign of the infamous dry joints in the clock problem. I presume you have the clock from your old car that you could try swapping it with?

Have one well pleased[:)]

Would only use 110V halogens via a transformer but also wear mechanics rubber gloves for that extra safety feature-any current leakage would perhaps warm the water-all this could form the basis of a patent!

Might be worth unplugging the belt sensor from the engine bay and exercising the sprung loaded wheel with some switch cleaner too...
