Hi Dan

The 951 lifters are pretty robust, problems usually occur when standing for some time and they get clogged up with a 'varnish' type substance. They are basic parts with little to wear during normal use. There are some solvents (Forte are probably the best) to help dissolve the goo, if this fails they can be stripped down and brought back to life. IIRC there are a number of video's showing this on Youtube. I believe that VW Golf may use the same lifters so search for video's on both..

Cheers

Pete

Thanks Pete and Martin and thanks for the offer Rob , seeing that I should be able to clean it out and clean it, that’s what I’ll do. I’ve already ordered another cam gasket, and I’ve seen thanks (Pete) that In you tube if you smack it flush hard on a piece of wood the internal adjuster valve spring ect should pop out , so I’ll give that a go.

It was never ever bad untill it stood for 3 years when I was saving up for the rebuild and 1 lifter was deflated out of all of them so we’ll see what I find?

Thanks again ????
