Just dug the 944 out the work shop as I parked it in there 3 months ago and ops!

so I de seized the brakes and she's running again.. took it for a test drive went ( Spirited ) round the round about and I could hear a knocking sound coming from the rear ?? any idea??

I am going to start getting her ready for a repaint..

[:D] your right to say that.. but yes..

Only because I had all the wheels off to move the brake calipers as it had been stood for 3 months over the rainly months. and it did it before I did this..

OK CV joints to the list then.. I thought it could be gear box end float or CV and phew! CV would be the cheaper :)

Again, stating the obvious...

If you've had the wheels off, is something like the jack not secure in the boot?

Oh no it's nothing like that Paul It's coming from some thing on the drive train..

so CV joints sound the plan of attack.. Summer though it's cold now.. [;)]

Is it a single "clunk" or a multiple "dunk, dunk, dunk, dunk" kind of noise?
If it's a single then I would suggest it is the sound of something shifting from side to side under cornering so I would be looking at the rear beam bushes and mounts, the trailing arm bushes, the ARB mounts and the transmission mount.
If it's a repeating noise then it suggests something rotating which would point to the CV joints as per my first guess.

CV joints have a habit of clicking when short of grease, jacking the car up to figure out which one it is frequently redistributes said grease and the noise goes away for a little while. If they are as worn as mine were before being changed you could slide the drive shaft back and forth between the gearbox and wheel and redistribute it a little, and it would keep quiet for a while. At this time of year the grease is probably thick and holds its position away from where it ought to be - so the problem may go away when it is warmer?

I would take a look at the handbrake shoe securing springs. They do tend to snap without warning.
