I can never get more than 55 litres in...

patch

Even when notionally completely empty (saying say 15 miles left on dash or on info system) I never seem to get more than 54 to 56 litres in. I have never had the temerity to just keep on driving in case I do run out and cock up the system. Any ideas anyone? I guess either it is not filling completely or it is not reading correctly to the tune of about 6 to 8 litres. Have any of you guys experienced similar at all?
Many thanks
Des

From your figures, I'd say you actually have around 49 miles left to go before your tank runs out (assuming 22mpg), it's not that you're not actually brimming the tank. I'd say the fault lies with the trip computer which extrapolates your range as it drops past the quarter level. Don't trust it. In my previous car (996 C4) I could run it for a good 10 minutes, with the trip computer saying I had '- -' range left and still have around 5 litres left in the tank.

Join the club! It's all to do with the shape of the fuel tank accommodating the four wheel drive running gear for the front.

Mine is exactly the same. I zero the trip meter when I fill up but I still can't stand driving around with an empty fuel guage even when I know I have another hundred miles of fuel left.

I've got an early 3.6L 996 C2. I tried to see what I could get from a tank so drove reasonably sedately (< 3500 rpm).Filled up ay 399.6 miles. Was a bit worried for the last 10 miles, especially as the range showed --. I'd passed a garage at 370miles and misjudged distance to next garage. When I did fill it I think I got 58 and a bit litres in.

Blimey, 400 miles is extraordinary off 58 litres. I get about 275, when gauge seemed to be working properly a couple of months ago it did about 300, less if having fun. I do however commute so lots of stop start for half the trip. Take care. d

filled my car up today . well i couldnt get any more in !
the gauge reads half full. its done this before, and will reset after a short drive.
not this time though. anyone had similar ?.
