I can see clearly now.....relatively

The rubbish window wipers on the 964 have always been a bugbear to me. So, I finally got round to upgrading them to later 'two spring' type:

Old one in the middle (getting a bit rusty) and new one nearest:

Pic showing the two springs on the new one and single spring on the old one:

They look a bit more meaty now and should do a better job clearing the water away [:)]

Don't get to excited Steve, the 2 spring version aren't that much better. What wiper blades are you using? cus Bosch are cr*p. I'd be interested to know who manufactures the OEM ones, oh and price dependant of course !!

When I had my 3.2 carrera, I always used OEM blades from the local OPC.

They are much better than Bosch, more to do with the shape and curvature as opposed to the build quality.

I've got the OEM blades which like you guys have found to be better than Bosch...still don't fit the edge of the screen properly though. I think we all accept that 964 wipers will never be good but at least the upgraded versions make them press a little harder against the screen. And at least mine aren't rusty like they were before [:D]

I bought mine from OPC - far, far better than previous Bosch ones - but some of that could be down to age!

Has anyone tried the 'flat' ones like on current BMWs? I have them on my 3 Series and they look like they would hug the tight contours of the 911 windscreen better than any conventional one might be able to...

The problem with the flat type wipers is the size of the adapter needed to make them fit on to the old style arms. It's the size of a brick and looks naff (imho).

That was my thought when i first saw the flat blade type. They have got to look right as well as do the job [;)]

Interesting point about the look of the fittings............I guess most of our cars are not daily drivers hence balance of function and form is allowable!

I fitted new blades a few weeks back and I needn't have bothered.....still useless.

At least now I know none of you can see either, it makes me feel better [:)]

I tried some of the new aerofoil flat blade thingys on mine (got them on ebay from a dealer known on Porsche forums - I think they are called AeroVu). After 2 days I went back to the original style wipers - the AeroVu ones were serious pants.

Before I found out that 964 wipers are rubbish, I fitted new blades...amazing, worked perfectly for about 3 or 4 showers then went back to the usual rubbish.

My advice:

1. Don't use your car in the rain unless you have to. [8|]
2. Buy wiper blades in bulk and change them once a month, perhaps Dave/Steve can order 1000 sets at a good price & send them off to us at monthly intervals? [&:]
3. Lump it [&o]

Just wanted to bump this thread.

Returned from Le Mans yesterday, it was my mate's turn to drive this year and he has a 3.2 which he understands has a screen that originally came from a 964, although I would presume they are the same anyway.

He has no issues at all with his wipers, and believe me they got plenty of use over the weekend!

Is this solely a 964 (993?) problem or does it go all the way back and my mate is just lucky or something?

[FONT=Verdana"]Have been out in the rain several times since I fitted my OPC blades - car already has (old looking) double spring arms. I think they are fine - taking the very curvy nature of the glasss into consideration.

I always use Rain-X without fail on all my cars - refreshing it about every other week on my daily driver. Rarely ever use the wipers on that![FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Try GTechniq G1 or G3 if you want the ulitmate in window clearing, I hardly had to use my wipers coming home from Le Mans, the stuff lasts from about 2 months G3, to a year for the G1. It is really that good, and does not add silicone etc to the windscreen making it smear.

I think you must have been camped across the way from us, your car looks familiar from the pic, we were in my mate's stickered up 3.2 getting gently sozzled on the terrace...
