I don't know what's wrong with me but I think I might be on the turn.

I've been having unusual feelings over the last couple of months

I don't know what to do

I know it's morally wrong

But I fear I may be beyond saving

I'm finding this hard to say

But

Sinning can be addressed with penance. Should you move to the dark side you should sell your 944 at a modest, even generously reduced price, to a needy individual who yearns to move into the 944 world but is short of cash, mehttp://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/micons/m9.gif

Haha.......challenge is getting a nice 964 for less than £30k (if u want a manual coupe with most/all bigger jobs done).

964 are real nice :)

Did you see that recent Car SOS on discovery ?? They did some serious sill restoration to a convertible .
Same problem as the 944's suffers but 10 times worst !! I think it was a 1992 model .

Beware if you do buy one.

As Andrew has said 30k now for something that will not cost a fortune, i have a friend who is a well known marque specialist and he is struggling to buy them.
At the moment we are dealing with "air cooled" price hysteria.
They are lovely things but TBH and of course in my opinion are overpriced, i have driven a few, great things but i prefer a nicely sorted 944.
I have 2 friends who have had genuine offers of something beginning with 5 to part wih their 964 Anniversary Cars.
993 Turbos advertised at 130k...............nuts !
This is leading to speculators buying and selling assets and enthusiasts missing out.......................which in real terms is already happening.

Is this the front banger equivalent of "coming out"? [:D]

[:D][:D]

Yes - Yes It Is

I say get a spin in one to see if you like it ... I drove a "Beetle" before and it wasnt what I expected. The gearchange was terrible and the nose bobbed about a fare bit.. It will take a bit of getting used to...

I say its like going back a while .. well 1938 to be precise with the original German KDF car .. Then Porsche spent 60 or so years trying to make a flawed design work ...

The 944 only goes back to 1975 with the 924 and the basic design never changed from 75 to 95 ...! It just worked !

Ahhh we are back to this old chesnut once again [:D]

I have driven a couple of 964's. I have always thought of them as my favorite 911. Yes prices are going a bit mental at the mo but I'll just wait till the bubble bursts or I'll look for a car that needs work. I'm not sure that I would sell the 44 as I have put a bit too much money and time into it to get out now.
But I would say that dynamically all 911's up to the 996 are miles behind the 44..

Colin please do come over to aircooled flat six dark side [8D]

I had a C2 964 for several years before I moved on to the 993.

Beware that a poor one can be a money pit, but I think it does represent the purest 911 experience that sensible money will buy.

There's only a few that can afford a1972 RS, a 73 Targa went for nearly 100K yesterday at Silverstone Auctions!!!!!

The handling of a 964 must be respected but not quite the widow-maker of earlier cars, and the big top end service is expensive, so budget £800 every second service!

The 993 sorted out almost all of these quirks with hydraulic cam followers and even cleverer suspension, but some suggest it's old-man's aircooled, but hey I'm an old man.

(That probably means Tom will sell it when he eventually does get his hand's on it)

All the usual advice, look long and hard, buy the best you can afford....

Good Luck

I've always loved the 964 and drove a couple before I bought my Turbo.

How about this one at JZ Machtech [8D]

Just £195k

You know it makes sense [8D]. Don't believe all the odd driving experience stuff though, they are fine and the noise......

Must keep the 944 though.

Colin, buy a 964 and keep the 944 if possible.

As others have said the prices of good ones has climbed in the last 12 months (especially for manual coupes).

I was lucky enough to get my 964 Jubi at a good price before the market went North [:)]

Oh no. You dirty Boy! I think deep down in all of us is a part so wrong! I've driven a 930,996,997 and 991. All up to the 997 are not so nice to drive as a 944 but we are all victims of the whole Porsche has to be a 911. I think the 911 bubble will burst too and as with houses the last to rise will be the first to fall. Having said that the 964 has always been a favourite of mine. Get it out of your system.

That's insane. Nice car (not that you'd dare drive it), but look what you can buy for 200K these days.....McLaren 650S, Ferrari 458 Stradale. Totally different league.

Oh really???

It's being sold for the owner who I know pretty well, and he used the car on nice sunny days and was even contemplating taking it to the Motorpunk trackday at Blyton Park.

Ha, you think you're sinning"¦ I sat in an Alfa 4C today and am seriously afflicted by car lust. There's a two year waiting list, so i guess i'm safe for the moment.

I have a 997 and was going to sell both 944 Turbo's to fund it, the 997 is a solid thing with a lovely drive seats, gearchange etc, it is quite stiff and noisy (it's a sports car),love it to bits but i also love my 944 Turbo S to bits and hey ho she is going nowhere, sold it once and managed to but it back 5 years later.
It is more user friendly and practical and i would say just as quick up to 120 (not that i have ever tested this of course)
Colin if you do have to scratch the itch as i have, sell a child or a kidney and keep the 944, i was just telling Mr Ruddy the other day that i am pleased that i did not sell both 944's before getting the 911.
