...then I looked at the engine bay pics [:)]

I mailed the seller yesterday pointing out the slight discrepancy - his reply was

"hi mate car built by ninemeister porsche specialist in warrington they told me
spec of engine, sold car to first veiwer today thanks for your comments,
shipping to ireland on wednesday"

In retrospect I guess it's not a massively inflated price (although more than I would pay) for a lightweight, freshly built 924S? - strange that you'd fit that engine (and leave in the tatty 3 spoke wheel after all that effort)

Er yeah, thats not quite a 968 engine. Is that the 2.5? My dad has a 2.0 924 and I don't think his engine looks like that.

Infact there not a 968 anything there... is there?

"shipping to ireland on wednesday"
Hmmm. What are the odds that it was bought without viewing, it makes it to Ireland and the new owner opens the bonnet only to discover that he has been throughly hoodwinked, and has paid to ship something across that's not what it claims to be ... ?

Oli.

Looks same as my engine bay with later type fuel rail and a lighter washer container!
guess will be one "upset" irishman!
Mike

the guy buying it prob wont know the diff. if he is happy to pay that money then thats up to him i suppose.

Another car unseen and "sold to Ireland." I wonder if the payment mysteriously gets rescinded just after collection.

But on the other hand, once the car is in Ireland, and the buyer demands his money back for misrepresentation isn't the boot on the other foot?

"Come and get this car it isn't what I paid for."
"No"
"Fine, refund half then and we'll call it quits."

I remember when I was selling the wife's x5 I had lots of enquiries from Ireland, all of which were dodgy!

I have studied the engine pic and the engine in the 924 is a 2.5 lump as the 3.0L 968 is a 16V same as the 944 S2 so you would see the dizzy cap on the top left of engine and a blank to the right , twin Cam ! More than likely it is a stripped down 924S ! The late model 924 did have the same engine as the 2.5 944 .

Must say who ever built the car has done a nice job of the roll cage , with the strengthening bars going from the bulk head to the front top mount area !

Not like you would want to test it !

It could be a 968 bottom end with a 944 2.7 head and pistons and the you could say it has a 968 engine, but I doubt it.

The head is certainly a 2.5 or 2.7 single cam, the fuel rail is from after '85, the throttle body is the same as my early 944 ('83) so possibly the car is an "S" - but that doesnot explain the steering wheel!
So, a '78 2.0 shell, with probably a 2.5 or even 2.7 944 running gear - Maybe the 968 engine was worth taking out, so possibly fitted after Ninemeister's attentions!
I'm having fun with this!
Looking at the close up of the n/s front wheel it has the speedo drive so it must be original 924 (or early 944).
Any other thoughts?
Mike

It is certainly a 2000cc 924 and not a 2500cc 924S. The clues are there for all to see. Id guess that its an 'alright' engine from in the corner. They dont even appear to have cleaned it.

No one seems to have noticed the flush fitting windscreen, which is a nice touch (and only seen previously on a 937).

It is not a 2000cc engine .... for definate. It is 2.5 or 2.7 as James says.

Well spotted - I thought they only fitted the flush fitting screen now - its still supported on the two blocks though!

Mike

How can you tell? (I know it says 1978).
A friend had a '78 924 and the sill stepped in below the door. That was the only difference we could see - beside the obvious wings and front panel etc.
Mike

I havent seen where it says '1978', but its clear from the rain channels. 924s and very early series one 944s had this style of rain channel. 1983 onwards cars have the smoothed channel.

Simon

Cheers! Mine is an '83 (reg 6/10/83) and has the same gutters so I wouldn't have noticed!
(and I didnt know about the change - guessed it came in with hte oval dash)
