I got One!!

Hi guys, I have just bought an S2 in black!!, well pleased with her but I have a couple of niggles I wonder if anyone could help.

The first is the clutch is fine but occasionally when the clutch is dipped and I begin to lift the lever it only lifts around 2 inches insead of ts full travel. If I put the clutch back down again it fully disenguages and if I lift it it fully engages. If I then slip my foot under the lever and pull it up it lifts back upto its origional position and works fine again. I was thinking a partially siezed clutch release lever?? What are your thoughts???

The second is when going around an island there is a grumble from the rear of the car, sounding like a wheel bearing. I'm going to check if the exhaust is moving against the body and transmitting noise first but it does sounds like a bearing, could it be a CV joint??

Any replies much appreciated, leeky.

There is a hydraulic clutch... check the clutch master cyclinder ( a barsteward to get at..[]). Whats it like if you constantly "pump" the pedal...? It shares the same fluid as the brake system.... so follow the flexible pipe down from the brake fluid resovoir....![;)]

Back wheelbearing sounds like but check the chimney anyway.....[&:]

Not on our RHD cars. It's two seperate systems with two reservoirs. The clutch reservoir is at the back of the engine bay in front of the steering wheel.

You didn't waste any time Leeky, a nice quick purchase and in the best colour too [:)] Of course we will expect pics when you get the time.

I was not aware of that ....! Everyday is a school day Paul [:D]

Yeah I bought the black s2 for sale at the show in the end, looked a few others but this one came with the most comprehensive history and in great condition. I only had the money in my hands for a few days till it burnt a massive hole and had to blow the lot, the good lady is still getting over it! although she does love the car.

If you pump the clutch it doesn't make any difference, there is plenty of fluid in the reservoir and when driving it feels fine, it only seems to happen when i'm in traffic and having to slip the clutch, its strange that the clutch is still fully operational but with reduced travel but as soon as I put my foot behind it and flick it back up again it returns to normal! This one beats me!

If you can lift the pedal with your foot it may simply be the pedal return spring near the pivot.
