I hate it when I see something I didn't know I wanted

Damn!

I find the 944 exhaust lacks the bark of a proper sports car, even with my modest ESS/Janspeed oval pipe. Changing for something more appropriate (a la WUF) makes the car too lound for most track days, and a tad anti social.

What could be better an exhaust with split personalities? Just as well it costs as much as it does or I would really, really want one.

Could be worth another 10 bhp though [8|]

I was considering a semi-expensive trip to Promax next year. That's a little beyond my budget though, I think I'll be sticking with the exhaust system I already have (since it was only fitted a year ago). I took me a long time to get used to a really quiet car, but now I kind of like the sneakiness of it. Nobody expects it to be quite as quick as it is "¦

Am planning on getting one along with a few other bits and bobs after Christmas, budget allowing. Have been in Andy of Promax'x 944 with one fitted and it does sound brilliant. Even better when stood by the side of the road as it went past me making discreet progress...

Hi John

Yes I have seen this and it definately comes into my would love category as been looking at exhausts for a while.

I must say the only reason being to get that bark of a proper sports car sound[:D] Which is the only thing lacking from the 44 Turbo in my opinion.

But at £1200 plus more for the electronic switching, it is something I would have to think long and hard about justifying.

Is your ESS one a tad more growly in the bark department John?

As that is £705 for the complete system and claims the same sort of power gains of around 12hp.

Better get talking to Father Xmas [8D]

I only have the ESS rear box. While it is more impressive than standard in the aural enjoyment stakes it isn't the full monty.

It has the advantage that it is quiet enough for track days; but some days it would be nice if it were louder. In the car it is fine for journeys, quiet on motorways and nice enough with the window open bouncing off the walls of picturesque villages. But it never delivers the sort of sound that you drive one gear down on what you could just to enjoy the exhaust note.

This obviously comes with volume. As I understand the ESS Janspeed system was designed to just stay within track day levels so, in theory, as loud as you can go with a standard exhaust.

The new Jag XK and Aston's all have valves in the exhaust which allow them to be quiet when they need to be and fun when you want them to be. It "sounds" like the ProMAX one is of a similar ilk.

Rick Cannell has his waste gate venting directly through a small length of pipe. That sounds awesome because you get to enjoy the full effect of your unwanted exhaust gasses at full boost. An excellent solution but too loud for track days. I had thought of (am thinking of) installing a diverter valve in the wastegate exhaust pipe so I could have the same effect and switch it off for track days. I think this may be a tad (or a lot) cheaper than the ProMAX solution

I have secretly [;)] been swapping emails with Andy at Promax and I'm planning to go and have a listen to the demonstrator (ie his car) when I get a quiet day before Christmas. I'll report back to you loud, brash Zortsy boys [:D]

I have had an e mail from Andy too Paul.

It is a little bit further for me to pop along and look, so look forward to your report.

Oh and I still do not have my car back yet [:(]

Look forward to hearing

's about time you replaced your exhaust straw and put something more appropriate in its place. [;)]

I love the movie of the white car pounding up to the roundabout!,what a fantastic bit of kit, would love an exhaust with a switch, would be playing with it all the time,loud,quiet,loud,quiet..[:D]Love seeing new bits still being developed for these cars.

Agree 100%. This way there will always be something else on the shopping list, so we will never get to the "done it all, time for another car" stage.

That sounds absoloutly brilliant I would probably of got that if it weren't for the fact that I've just got my new H&S exhaust and it's not even fitted yet.

It still ceases to amaze me how they still make new things for the 944 it just goes to show how popular the car really is.

S2s and turbos maybe: 2.5 prices seem to be falling off a cliff nowadays.

£1200 for an exhaust....?????

Flippin heck . I would hope its gold plated at that price......[8|][8|][8|][8|]

The 944 turbo that I am finally picking up next Monday has that RPM back box together with a 3" stainless system and it sounds great, but not too boomy or otherwise antisocial![8D]

Has RPM logo stamped onto it from memory.

Will report back once i have it back from Hartech (belts etc! [8|]) on what it is like to live with.

Cheers
Nick
