I have found a new bulb..

And I'm not sure what it does. It is under the ashtray. It doesn't come on when the lights are on (ignition only) but I think the bulb is ok.
I am struggling to think what it lights up - a little light might creep through between the armrest and ashtray but what use is that?
Confused of Wiltshire.

Is it supposed to highlight the location of the ashtray?
The 993 has a light in the ashtray that comes on when you open it.

There is a small hole in the side of the ashtray - the bulb simply lights the interior of the ashtray, it comes on with the sidelights.

It's pretty useless, the dull glow from a lit cigarette end gives a better indication of where the ashtray is at night [8D]

I use the feed to power a pair of small LEDs that are mounted below the radio so I can see the switches in the centre console.

Riverside,

Do you have any photos of where you mounted the LEDs as I have been thinking of something similar for my 968.

Thanks,

Simon

It's just a flexible sticker with two leds in it - I got a pair of them free on the cover of a Max Power type magazine a few years ago but you can probably buy them in Halfords etc, it's a pretty standard piece of stick-on chav tat. I stuck it to the the upper lip of the storage tray under the radio & used the ashtray light wiring for power so it's a completely reversable mod. Oddly enough I got the idea from seeing a pic of a 968 tray someone had done something similar to.

My father-in-law's old E36 beamer has a pair of LEDs in the roof console (OEM) that do a similar job & are a much slicker solution. I like clever little details like that on cars, those two LEDs probably replace half a dozen little lights in each switch around the gear lever and simplify the wiring loom.

Thanks, I'll give that a go, wasn't sure where to mount the LEDs so that they weren't too obvious. I have had a similar item from Maplins rattling around in my daily driver for best part of a year waiting for me to use it.

The blue one in the middle is the one that I have. I'll try it later and see how it looks....
