I know I am over the border...

....in Ipswich in fact and while am intending to start going to region 12 events , it would actually be easier for me to get down the A12 to region 11 gatherings of an evening if that would be ok with everyone ?

You can actually specify which region you wish to belong to. It isn't done on a strictly geographical basis. If my memory serves me correctly (and Geoff will put me right if not so) but Geoff Ives used to belong to the Isle of Man region even though he never lived there, just a spiritual homeland.
Cheers,

Hi Suffolk944,

You are welcome to go to which ever Region you feel most comfortable.

I try to go to as many R11 events as I can but also frequent the Ace Cafe meets which are R20.

The next Essex meet is tomorrow evening, perhaps I will see you there?

Hi I live in stowmarket and go to R11 R12 and R24 at diffrent times during the year all very frendley and helpfull just look in p post and see whots on. Berny.

Excellent - Though typically this weeks meet may prove beyond me as am likely to be stuck at work late this evening. If I dont make it this week then will aim for next month - also want to try get to the Ace Cafe meet - bit of a trek but looks good.

You made it then [:)]

Sorry we didn't have longer to chat, the small boy was being a bit of a pain and had to get home to bed. Bit unusual for me as I am usually one of the last ones away.

On the way out I noticed a number of 944's in the car park - not all of which I recognised - so it looks like we should have a good turn out come the lighter evenings.

I thought last night was a great evening, but then I am very keen on the Lotus 49. Hearing what Team Lotus was like immediately prior to the 49 was fascinating to me. I can appreciate however that others, without my interest, might not have been quite so inspired.

Martyn has an unenviable job in sorting meetings. If he doesn't arrange something for (the dark evenings particularly) he gets criticised because there is nothing to do. If he does arrange a speaker he get criticised because people don't have time for a beer and a chat.

There have been very few talks I haven't enjoyed. Some could perhaps have been shorter, others could have continued until the small hours and would still have been interesting. The difficulty is you never know who is going to be engaging until the evening. Some apparently boring subjects have been presented with such style, wit and enthusiasm that they have turned into really great evenings.

Finding speakers isn't easy. Very good ones make a reasonable living being paid for after dinner speaking. Free speakers are obviously a gamble.

I have been to the meetings of several different regions including R20 The Ace Café. These have all been "Tyre Kicking, Beer & Social" meetings. While fine if you know a lot of people, as a shy retiring type, I find these meetings lack the focus of Essex meetings. As a result you can feel a bit of a spare doobry at a wedding.

As I said earlier Martyn get criticised if he has speakers and criticised if he hasn't - I hope he carries on getting them. It would be far easier for him not to bother but, despite what people say, I think numbers would dwindle as a result.

Very perceptive as ever Simo! Couldn't have put it better.

Criticism could however mean that there's alot to talk about & the high numbers at monthly meetings speak for themselves as we have never had more, so Martyn's approach obviuosly suits the majority of those who would attend (there will always be a large number that can't/won't attend no matter what is put on).

Altho find it V.diff to see you as you obviuosly see yourself....ie shy/retiring sort of chap.
See Martyn.....one does take note, even if my sojourns on the forum are rare these days.....lack of time since I retired! [;)]

Apologies for not having ventured into this part of the forum since I made it to the last meet and a belated thanks for the friendly welcome I found there.

Must say I was amazed and pleased at the sheer number of folk there. I certainly enjoyed the talk - in his own way the speaker gave some fascinating glimpses into what seemed a very different world to modern F1 and Indy.

As a newcomer was also very glad there was an event put on as it gave me a way to get settled in. If it had just been a social must confess I wouldnt have known where to start.

There were certainly a goodly number of 944s out in the car park and am looking forward to the next and subsequent meets - especially as the lighter evenings will permit a look round the assembled machinery.

Suffolk944 and members of the Essex Region are invited to:
On Monday Evening 18th June, The Suffolk Jaguar Club is hosting a gathering of Porsche, MG and Jaguars just north of the A14 and a little East of Bury St Edmund at The Grange Hotel, Thurston. The meeting is entirely social, A prize of a bottle of wine (or similar award) to the best visiting car and to the best Jaguar.
We would ask that you spread the word around your friends with Porsches and encourage them to come out on an evening drive in the countryside to Bury St Edmunds. The location can of course be found through www.multimap.com or other web sites. Look to north of Thurston off the road to Great Barton.

Please aim to arrive between 7.30 and 8.00pm and no later if possible, in case the evening gets a bit cool.

I have attended this event for a number of years and found it to be a very friendly gathering of car enthusiasts. The restaurant is excellent, but you are advised to book in advance.

If a few days before the 18th June you could give me an indication of numbers, so space is available for the Porsche brigade to be assembled in line together - if nothing else it makes for good pictures!
